I'm planning on it, BBO and I had a meet up with some of the Iboats folks at Eufaulla. We had a great time, BBO even cooked!

Very cool on all accounts. Hopefully BBO can make Okmulgee too.

Well, I don't really have a "hot boat", but I might could make it to the bash.

Arch, I'll look at my schedule and let you know what weekends I have off. I have the same goofy schedule I had last summer.

Thanks PSI, here is tonight's "work" or mock up. I have been pondering how to come up with hard points on the deck to strap down the tank without putting holes in the deck. Holes = Water, which starts the rot process. Eventually EVERY piece of wood will rot, I just don't want to speed it up. Actually the only thing that is wood is the deck, but then we also have the water filled foam to think about  ...actually that is nightmare! Anyhow here is the idea I came up with. Its kind of like galvanizing, you can't beat water, but you can slow things down with sacrificial corrosion. Or in this case sacrificial wood. I couldn't figure out how to get out of having a piece of wood, but this design eliminates making holes that would let water into the deck. If this rots out in 5 years, oh well, I'll grind it out and replace it in a weekend. Ok so enough with the "theory" crap, :D

I laid out where my "tank / battery cover" will be on the deck with tape on the carpet. Then measured over to my mock up tank. I have 2-1/2" to work with. I backed that off to 2", then built a mock up hard point. The idea is to counter sink a stainless carriage bolt into a wood block, epoxy it to the deck, then glass it in. The hard point has two purposes, 1 to anchor the tank, batter or whatever, 2 to serve as an attachment plate for the tank/ battery cover. Here is what I came up with, the angle bracket would be for the cover attachment. All the hardware and brackets will be stainless, the wood will be teak or red oak. What do you guys think?

Good idea wood. That reminds me of an idea I had when I was building the boat.....I hadn't thought about casting glass, but just laying it up multiple layer, then cutting it to shape on the table saw. I'm guessing it might be hard on saw blades, but worth it if its one less piece of wood in the boat. Thanks for the idea wood, I will do some experimenting on that. I guess you could also do the same thing with duraglass (chop strand filler).

Heck, You could probably use Bondo Hair!!! I would NOT take much to do it!!!

That's what I was thinking...just glob a big pile of them scooby snacks around the carriage bolt and whammy. No rot ever.

I'll think about that Wood, never hurts to have a few extra bucks! I didn't get much time on the boat this weekend, spent most of it at the lake finishing up the AC system and getting things squared away for summer.

I talked to the tank people on Friday, sounds like my tank won't be here till after next weekend  Oh well that is my fault for not ordering it sooner. So far the people at SP tanks have been great. I can still get a lot done next weekend, I will just have to get the tank stuffed in that next week! I also played with the trim indicator....as some of you may remember it indicated the motor in the opposite position as it really was, down was up and up was down! I reversed the polarity on it tonight, it just stayed peg in the up position. I cant figure out how you can put it on backwards, but maybe I have....any suggestions?

I also ordered a stainless polishing kit from northern tools, with that I hope I can finish up the swim platforms.

Tonight I finally got back to Miss Morgan. I worked on laying up the fiberglass for the hard points, after thinking about it.....I have the glass and resin, so why not go that way? I laid up about 25 layers of 2 oz mat, which is about 3/4" thick. Tomorrow I'm going to try to cut out the pieces and get them ready to mount. The tank shipped today, so hopefully I will have it here next week. Here is a shot of some of the glass stacked up.

Here it is laid up, got nice and warm!

I also worked on setting up my MIG for stainless to build the swim platform brackets....and practiced some welding. I think I have the settings figured out. I'm going to try a practice run tomorrow and also try the stainless polishing kit I bought from northern tool tomorrow.

I made the frames, it took a lot of time to get them right....I actually built a mockup, modified it till it was right, then built the final seat frames. I hired out the actual upholstery, it was $1000 for both seats (actually 4 seats), but I went with the high end guys and an expensive fabric. I'm really happy with them, I'm good at a lot of things, but sewing isn't one of them. If i re-did it I would have them do it again.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Long day, I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but summer is here in OK...90 something and 80% humidity! I made some good progress today. I worked on cutting the "hard points" out of the glass I laid up yesterday. I was wondering what the best way to "machine them" was. I went to HD this morning and picked up a couple of el chepo blades for my table saw. I HATE Chinese crap, but I figured these blades would be trashed anyhow. I tried out the paneling / plywood / plastic blade first..... as I suspected the glass smoked it. It only made it one pass and was done, on the next pass I went with the carbide blade which fared a lot better. I finished up cutting out the hard points with it, but it is in dire need of sharpening!

I rigged up a jig to cut all of them to the same height with a router, but for some reason the bit slipped and changed height...they will still work fine, but it kind of PO's me....guess I will get over it!

I think once they are down they will be really stout, wish I would have mounted my seats this way. I also did shop drawings on the swim platform brackets and started welding them up. I'm not happy with the welds, I can't seem to figure out stainless...if anyone has any tips let me know. Hopefully tomorrow I will finisih up the brackets and get them buffed out.....I have some video, but the pizza just got here, lol! I'll try to post it tomorrow!

Here is my shop drawing, I thought I would see how well drawings post now that they changed the Iboats format.

FYI 24 tooth Carbide tipped blade is best for cutting materials like that.
