Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!
Thanks PSI, here is tonight's "work" or mock up. I have been pondering how to come up with hard points on the deck to strap down the tank without putting holes in the deck. Holes = Water, which starts the rot process. Eventually EVERY piece of wood will rot, I just don't want to speed it up. Actually the only thing that is wood is the deck, but then we also have the water filled foam to think about
...actually that is nightmare! Anyhow here is the idea I came up with. Its kind of like galvanizing, you can't beat water, but you can slow things down with sacrificial corrosion. Or in this case sacrificial wood. I couldn't figure out how to get out of having a piece of wood, but this design eliminates making holes that would let water into the deck. If this rots out in 5 years, oh well, I'll grind it out and replace it in a weekend. Ok so enough with the "theory" crap,
I laid out where my "tank / battery cover" will be on the deck with tape on the carpet. Then measured over to my mock up tank. I have 2-1/2" to work with. I backed that off to 2", then built a mock up hard point. The idea is to counter sink a stainless carriage bolt into a wood block, epoxy it to the deck, then glass it in. The hard point has two purposes, 1 to anchor the tank, batter or whatever, 2 to serve as an attachment plate for the tank/ battery cover. Here is what I came up with, the angle bracket would be for the cover attachment. All the hardware and brackets will be stainless, the wood will be teak or red oak. What do you guys think?
