    3.0lx won't start

Re: 3.0lx won't start Many times those switches can be in the run position and still not work. First, check for spark, if no spark, you need to do some voltage checks on the engine to see if you have ignition power from the switch. Easiest place is on the purple wire on the electric choke. If...

    AQ125 Idle temp

Re: AQ125 Idle temp The temp is usually in the 180-190? at idle and under load. NEVER over 190?. Also make sure the hose connector on the drive isn't corroded away under the hose. Common problem with those drives.

4.3 no spark, 3 days later and spark.

Re: 4.3 no spark, 3 days later and spark. Next time it doesn't run (Yes, you will have to check the problem when it's not working) simply check to see if you have spark. No spark you have an ignition problem. Pull the flame arrestor off and pump the throttle and see if the accelerator pump...

4.3 no spark, 3 days later and spark.

Re: 4.3 no spark, 3 days later and spark. It may have been vapor lock since it was really hot that day. Opening the engine hatch a little can help to let the hot air out of the engine compartment on those really warm one.

Gauges powered off of accessory switch

Re: Gauges powered off of accessory switch Merc had several methods of wiring instruments depending on the type of control box used. Here is a couple of typical setups they used. The first page sounds like what you SHOULD have, where you would be running off the key switch.

Raw water pump mounted fuel pump oil?

Re: Raw water pump mounted fuel pump oil? The gear lube in the pump should always be replaced yearly, and they will always smell like gas and be slightly diluted. Every mechanical pump will allow a small amount of gas into the oil. On automotive, the pump was mounted to the block, and the few...

Re: Mercruiser water inlet hose. Plastic or Metal Nipple in Bell Housing? Do you have a serial number for your engine and outdrive? Pictures work sometimes. As far as those tubes go, you shouldn't have to do any more than snug the clamp up, not twist it down so tight it breaks things...

Where to look for this obvious electrical problem

Re: Where to look for this obvious electrical problem This is just a check to make sure the pumps will run. Battery switch on. Key off. Remove the R4 Fuel pump relay and jumper across terminals D and E in the picture below. The fuel pumps should run. Do they?

    SX-A trim problem

Re: SX-A trim problem No, that is not telling you anything about the 50A breaker, that only tells you the F2 fuse is ok. You can take the 50A breaker out of the electrical box and the relays will still click. This is where you really need either a test light or a multimeter. You could...

    Ignition swap

Re: Ignition swap Here is info for a 3.0L with an alpha drive. DO NOT use the timing specs for a 4.3, but do follow the procedures for going into base timing mode, setting timing, and getting back out of base timing mode after you set the timing.
