AQ125 Idle temp

Ok fellas,
Thanks to all those who have helped with my ignition and fuel problem on this new little project. I am now on to the next one. What is the idle temperature of the AQ125a? I have the engine running in a basin and the intake on the out-drive is completely submerged. It is idling at about 1000 rpm, and my temperature is at about 200, I cut the engine at about 208 so I did not see if it would go any higher fearing damage. I am going with the thought that I will defiantly need a new impeller but thought I would ask. Also, should I be able to see raw water at the strainer cap while it is idling?

Re: AQ125 Idle temp

The temp is usually in the 180-190? at idle and under load. NEVER over 190?.

Also make sure the hose connector on the drive isn't corroded away under the hose. Common problem with those drives.

Re: AQ125 Idle temp

Thanks Don,
I pulled the impeller, and like I was thinking it pretty much exploded in there so I ordered 2 kits knowing I will need to replace it next year and save a bit on the shipping now. I checked the hose connector and it looks good. I also placed a clear hose in line in anticipation on checking for an air leak in the out-drive when I splash it next week to test some more. Now on to the next issue, what ever it may be!!! (As I keep mumbling to myself, "There is no such thing as a free or cheap boat!!!!")

If its still overheating after the new impeller you can hook up a garden hose to the rubber connecting hose, the clear hose now, pointing towards the out drive. You basically back flash the drive and look for the leaks.

Good Idea, I didn't think of back flushing, thanks. Can I also hook a hose up the other direction and flush as well as run it to check and set the timing?

Yes, bit it's a little more tricky. The impeller will stop the water flow until its moving and will cause a different amount of resistance depending on how fast you are revving the motor. The faster it spins the less resistance and the higher water flow. When the engine is off the water pressure can build up and cause issues, most likely the garden hose pushed out and into the bilge.

Re: AQ125 Idle temp

Update,
I flushed to the out-drive and cleared out some old cob webs, it is now clear. Since I am waiting on the new impeller(s), I re-placed the cover plate on the impeller and connected the hose towards the engine. I was able to push the out the remnants of the impeller to the strainer cup, and make sure the line was clear though to the exhaust. This leads to a new question, When I did that, I noticed water was coming out the of the tube that comes off the heat exchanger, and into the bilge. I felt where it was coming out and and it feels like a threaded insert that is supposed to be there. Is that a plug that is supposed to be there and removed when the engine is winterized?

Sounds like it may be where a drain plug or fitting went. Can you post a picture showing where it is?

When I took some pictures I found 2 issues. 1st is the obvious water coming out of the threaded hole on the tube, and 2nd is the drain petcock on the manifold. Here is what I am looking at.

Yep. That is a winterizing drain. You are missing the plug. Look in the bilge.
