I have a 1986 Volvo Penta AQ225D Sn CU54427 with AQ280 stern drive. I am new to boating and picked up a beater to restore and learn on. The U-joints seized and broke. I am okay with replacing them but when I took it apart I also realized that the bearings on the shaft from the engine back to the stern drive were completely destroyed. On the chart at

Items 66 to 71 are broken to a point I can not tell how they went in. I am trying to figure out what all is involved on this so I can do it or if it is a bit beyond my knowledge level. Specifically I am trying to understand how the bearings near the engine go in. Do I have to remove the flywheel cover and install them from that side or do they all go in from the back of the boat? I can see what look like a sleeve of some sort in the flywheel cover does that have to come out? Is there a repair manual that will have the details of how to replace these

Re: Volvo Penta AQ225 Stern Drive Bearings

Just checking in to see if anyone has an idea about how the bearings go in on the shaft between the moter and stern drive. I don't have a manuel that describes to procedure to replace them and I am a bit lost since they were broken up to a point I did not really remove them
