Re: 1977 35hp johnson and yes by all means try squirting some pre mixed fuel into the cylinders. Just wanted to be sure that your ignition and starting systems were functional before proceeding to fuel delivery, as these tests go quick once you start.

    Winterizing Cuddy

It is that time of year for us Northern Hemisphere boaters, (:p to you southerners that do not need to worry about this, lol), and I thought I would start a thread about winterizing the cuddy. Short of the normal mechanical winterization, and winterizing the head, water tank etc..., how do you...

    Recitifier and RPM questions

Re: Recitifier and RPM questions Tachs have rotary switches on the back that set it to different numbers of coils in the charging circuit, times two because there is a positive and negative pulse for each coil for each cycle. Tachs measure pulses. That being said, your tach should be set to 6...

'72 Evinrude 65HP-- how to change oil in lower unit.

Re: '72 Evinrude 65HP-- how to change oil in lower unit. I by no means want to discourage your from changing the oil now, but usually changing it before you winterize is the best time, to ensure that there is no water in there before it freezes. Nothing wrong with checking it mid season. The...

Tow of shame!! 1972 Evinrude 65hp no spark

Re: Tow of shame!! 1972 Evinrude 65hp no spark Mike, make things easy on yourself and get an adjustable spark tester. The important thing here is the distance of the gap that the spark will jump. In your case, you want the spark to jump a gap of 7/16 of an inch with a bright blue ZAP!! These...

    Johnson 9.9 Seahorse Impeller

Re: Johnson 9.9 Seahorse Impeller Welcome to iboats. That is a 1985. You need to remove the lower unit to service the water pump. You should really get yourself a factory OEM service manual, trust me, it will pay for itself a million times over. Be sure to flush the water line with...

    Trim and Tilt?

Re: Trim and Tilt? First, lets assume you are referring to an outboard. When parked at the dock, if the water level is not so low that you are worried about damaging the prop from wake, there is nothing wrong with leaving it tilted in. The water level in my slip for my cruiser is low, so I...

2 black black spark plugs, 2 nice ones. What gives?

Re: 2 black black spark plugs, 2 nice ones. What gives? I agree with DaJohnson53, Ill bet when you install an inline adjustable tester, you will find an absence of spark on the cylinders in question. Plus this way is much easier on the brain cells. ;) The cheap single cylinder ones are...

    checking spark

Re: checking spark I prefer the adjustable inline gauges like the following. Remove all the plugs. Set the gap to either 1/4" or 7/16", depending on the model. The spark should jump the gap with a bright blue ZAP!!

    1971 50hp Tachometer Install

Re: 1971 50hp Tachometer Install Tachs read off the alternating pulses from the stator. Any of the leads from the stator charging portion can be used for the signal. The designated tach signal wire is merely attached to one of those. Following may help.
