I just bought a new boat with an 89 Johnson 48 spl outboard on it. It came with power tilt/trim, which works with the buttons on the motor. The problem is that it was not wired up to the controls when the controls were replaced. The controls are bombardier brand. Is there an adapter I can buy to run to the motor, or is can i just splice in some wires between the two to make them work?

What colour wiring is coming off the top of the trim motor? Just want to make sure it has not been modified.

The wires coming from the control box back to the relay box should be red, green and blue. A couple more if you have a trim gauge.

Well, basically yes. From the control back it'll be very similar but his should have a 2 wire motor and the harness from the front will go to 2 relays rather than the solenoids. But the basic idea is the same.

Awesome. I will take a closer look tonight when I get off work. I know there are two black wires from the motor up. I do remember there being three different colored wires going from the switch on the cowl.

Yep. Blue (sky) is up, green (grass) is down. Red is power. The 2 black wires going forward are probably the gauge wires.
