    '98 SPX Performance Update

Hey Gents, I have a '97 SPX that has been modified. It has a Solas impeller, intake, rebuilt powerhead by SBT, aftermarket tuner pipe, etc... Now my trouble. I had it for a couple hours, and all was well. Then I THINK I sucked up some seaweed and overheated it. It suddenly bogged down and...

    CD-13 "Barn Find"

Re: CD-13 "Barn Find" Other things to note. Use OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on the threads, and after a couple high speed runs, re torque the bolts. Then you are done. Be sure to dress the head before installing. Don't think I have ever found one that doesn't need any attention.

1960 Evinrude Lark 2 wont stay running

Re: 1960 Evinrude Lark 2 wont stay running The coil heels (laminations edge) need to be flush with the upper edge of the bevel on the mounting boss. If you run your fingernail up the boss, and it catches on the laminations, it is out too far. Too far in though will limit spark. Should be...

    Cylinder Head 58 Evinrude 25936

Re: Cylinder Head 58 Evinrude 25936 I was going to say, you need to use something very flat, I use plate glass. Steel is not straight. Not rough plate steel anyways. Figure 8s is the way to go. Usual low spot is between cylinders. You will never get it true with a grinder like you were doing.

    Timing Problem? ( with video)

Re: Timing Problem? ( with video) Just for your reference this is how to punch the brass ring. What type of compression does the motor have? After setting points, did you TEST the spark? The spark should jump a 1/4" gap on an adjustable tester with a bright blue ZAP!!' You say you set the...

    1957 Evinrude Bigtwin 35 ES

Re: 1957 Evinrude Bigtwin 35 ES The fuel mix is 24:1 as your other motors. The generator on that model was an option. Rare actually to find one so good for you. For that motor they are not critical, you can eliminate them if you want. I use a solar charger on my motors and keeps them up all...

    1959 Evinrude Lark

Re: 1959 Evinrude Lark Get a new gasket. Torque to 220-240 INCH/LBS. No sealer required. Start with half the torque value for a round, then 3/4, then the full torque value. This ensures even torque. Be sure to dress the head first as well. I dont think I have ever found one perfect...
