    Starcraft console to Gunnel joint?

I'd be concerned about windscreen and mooring cover fitment once the consoles are raised. The 'Alum Goods' version has the console tops overlapping the gunnels, which sends water out to the gunnels, and hopefully overboard.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I just did the splashwell drains in my boat, and saw those as well. I ended up going the aluminum route, as I was worried about the longevity of those plastic ones. The plastic bilge drain on my boat was brittle and cracked when I got it, and I was worried these might end up the same way...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

No worries, I'll go take a look. I'm surprised how nice the tape worked on that highly textured Nautolex!

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

That's awesome! Now I know what those rectangular 'sockets' on the side of the gunnels are for!

Oh no! What a mess that must have made. Hopefully no injuries?

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

66, hope you don't mind if I poke my head in here briefly.... @SHSU, that pic looks like you put sealant/5200 between rub rail and the Nautolex on the gunnel? If so, how did you manage to keep a clean edge and not end up smearing sealant into all the neighbouring valleys in the vinyl?

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

Strong mix? 50/50 is pretty standard from what I've read? That was this past fall/early winter when temperatures allowed proper flushing. The whole hull was pressure-washed out multiple times after the vinegar rinse, so I doubt there's any significant acid left anywhere. The hull was also...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Hah! Yet another reason to replace the windscreen. First reason is the nasty 'crazing' of the plastic (see photo above).

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

No, the black isn't leaving marks, and is the same profile as the lower rub-rail on the outside of the hull. I like the curved detail, and the way it trims out that portion of the interior, but the rub-rail isn't that useful as its on the inside. The carpet strip was the old feller's mooring...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Interesting. Lots of differences here between the Alum Good version and the 'real' SS16. On mine the plywood dash panel is slotted between an aluminum angle and the flanged lip on the dash structure. It slides up from below, and is screwed in place from behind. The top of the console...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I don't know if you'd get much more rugged that Nautolex. I've gone with the marine upholstery vinyl, which should hold up fine so long as the fish hooks and other sharp objects stay out of it.

I rinsed the inside with a couple gallons of vinegar mixed with the same volume of warm water. That was followed up with pressure washing and rinsing with just warm water. I can't comment on the effectiveness of treating those hidden areas, but I feel better trying something!

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

Plywood, and lumber in general, has spiked back up to those highs from last year. Crazy times, for sure. I used exterior grade plywood for my deck and transom replacements. ACX or better quality plywood may have had a nicer finish, but what came out of my boat looked to be the same exterior...

    3M 5200/4200 Clean-up Strategies

Just checked, and my 4200 is cured nicely this after 24 hrs in 50 deg shop. @Grub54891 sorry to hear about the non-curing 5200. That sounds like a real pain.

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Thanks, I'm pleased with how they worked out. I used adhesive to bond them in place, along with rivets at the stringers and in the lateral members I mentioned earlier. They also extend under the aluminum angles that support the side panels, so they are locked in place pretty well. I didn't...

    3M 5200/4200 Clean-up Strategies

The tube I had open was 4200. These are all above-waterline applications, but being on the transom, there will be lots of splash at times. I used a bbq skewer to smear the 4200 around the inside of the hole through the transom, then more on the shank of the fastener, and both sides of the flat...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

@classiccat , thanks for the reply. My gunnels have foam blocks in them, and the area below the shelves is fully spray-foamed. I was thinking about popping a hole in the shelf, and cutting a groove in the foam to allow the cables to be routed below the shelf. Maybe that's really not the worth...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

OK, looks like I can't edit that old post to add pics, so here they are: Windshield view from side. Is it too 'racey' looking at the higher sweep back angle? Windshield view from stern: Side Panel: 1/2" ply wrapped in two layers of 1/8" closed cell foam underpadding, then wrapped in marine...

That's funny, I'm jealous right back at you. You've not only figured out the painting process, but actually laid paint on the hull! I still wake up with night sweats thinking about painting - my least favourite of tasks.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I peeled the old vinyl off, and re-wrapped in fresh vinyl with a couple layers of that closed-cell foam that's used for laminate flooring underlayment underneath. It gave the vinyl a 'cushy' feel. Not sure if I have any pics, but will post here if I find one. I used the same closed-cell foam...
