Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

It worked out OK, with a bit of 'squeeze-out' when the mount screws were tightened. I've got lots left of my roll if you want it - 1/8" x 3/4".

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Looks familiar! One thought...I left my consoles in for most of the restoration project. In the end, I needed to pull them out anyways, and wish I had done it at the start. I spent time sliding deck boards in and out underneath the suspended consoles, when really just drilling out a few more...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Sharkhide isn't on yet. Still needs final wet-sanding below the blue, and then application of the SharkHide. I ended up buying direct from the Sharkhide site, and having it shipped in. I have applied it to rubrails, and a few smaller parts. No experience on big panels yet.

She sees daylight, even if only for a few hours! Needed access to the shop for vehicle maintenance. I'm very happy with how the taller windshield worked out - more substantial-looking than the original.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Sounds familiar - the rusted steel fastener bit. The old feller that owned my boat previous used lots of non-stainless fasteners as well, and many were corroded to the point that they just broke apart on removal. Yeah, save that antique nav light if you can. The one on my boat was heavily...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Thanks. It is certainly more enjoyable putting stuff in/on the boat for good, rather than taking stuff off! Paint looks nice from a distance. There's orange peel and dust in the finish in spots. I did the wet sand/polish/wax on one side of the hull, and it turned out nice. Waiting for a...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Quick update - two side cushions for the bow are complete. We used the almost-no-sewing option, with top panel folding over each of the sides. Just the corner edges needed stitching. I was going to try stitching covers with nice piping on the edges, but April is not the time to learn yet...

Is there anything that can be done to restore the original to enhance the contrast? Not sure if a clear coat of some type might help?

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Let me know what you find. Sounds like a good addition to the marine wiring kit.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

You can get those wire splice kits for submersible pumps that have some sort of waterproof sealant in them. You should be able to do the same with an appropriate sealant applied first, then heat-shrink over-top to squeeze it all tight. Just thinking out loud here, I've never tried this. But...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Nice craftsmanship at work here! When do the panels go in for good? Rivets or screws?

    Keeping the Rain Out! SS16

I dug out the transom corner cap from my box of hardware, and noticed a few things of interest. I'm not sure if this is the same as the Starcraft part (my boat is Aluminum Goods Corp hull from the 70's, an SS16 knockoff). 1.) The corner cap has cast-in grooves that channel the overflow water...

    Keeping the Rain Out! SS16

All good ideas, thanks! The end cap on mine doesn't fit snug, so there's already adequate gap for water to flow underneath. I'll do the Nautolex scab idea with a bit of scrap, just to ensure things flow the right way.

    Keeping the Rain Out! SS16

Thanks, I've been wondering about this issue for a while and haven't seen it mentioned. If my calculations are correct, a 1" rainfall will result in something over 30 gallons of water falling on the boat. Getting that water overboard directly rather than ending up in the bilge is a major...

    Keeping the Rain Out! SS16

What are the thoughts on keeping the rainwater out of the boat when sitting with mooring cover installed? A full storage cover with sides that drape over the hull would sort that out of course, but I'm wondering about successful diversion of rainwater with a mooring cover alone. On my hull...

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

Ah, that explains things. I wasn't aware of that fastening technique. Thanks!

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

That's a nice tidy look. I like it! Did you do your own upholstery work? How are they attached to the hull? Is that an SS16? From that view, it looks like the covered bow section is bigger on mine. Not sure why they did that, as it's just wasted space up under there. Should fill with foam...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

@ShoestringMariner - not sure I'm clear on what you're describing yet. By reversible - you mean the cushion would have no integral plywood base, but would be like a sofa cushion that can be flipped over and used the other way? What's the advantage there? Different style one side vs the other...
