2022 Splash Of The Year (SOTY) Nominations

I am honored to be the current steward of the Restoration Forum's Splash of the Year award. The plaque is emblazoned with the names of all of the winners since its inception in 2016. Each year the plaque has a new name added and it is sent to the new winner to be displayed until it is...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I've heard mixed reviews about the Sniper. I think you are wise to sell it off.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

So frustrated. It's been mid-90s for weeks now, with the heat index usually around 100°. I cannot work in that, nor can I enjoy boating in that. I HAVE been commuting on a motorcycle and it's been rough, but at least I can keep moving through the air. By the time I get back to boating, it...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

If it WAS ready to run, it's too dang hot to enjoy it right now. Mid to upper 90s and 100s. I'll plan on September repair and then enjoy some fall rides.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Just a quick update; My next act was to repair the crack in the side of the engine block before I start using it this spring. Well...that hasn't happened yet. The boat project kept me occupied for two years while I let some other chores and household repairs fall behind. I expected to have...

At this point, it is probably better than the plug they used to make the molds at the factory.

In all "fairness", you are doing a great job. I've done some fairing, though not to that extent, so I appreciate the effort it takes.

I didn't mean to threadjack, but I'm glad I asked.

I pull mine with a rope as well, but what do you do when there is no courtesy dock alongside the ramp. How would you avoid driving it on in that situation?

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Boxed cushions work out better if you make the faces about a 1/2" shy of the corner of the foam all the way around. I want to say the same for the sides, but it has been years since I have done zippered box cushions. I guess the thing to remember is that the corner of the foam will never fill...

What tools are "must haves" on the boat in your tool bag while keeping it light as possible ?

Others mentioned a prop and prop wrench. Keep a spare nut and cotter kit for your setup on hand. Easily dropped in the water. As I work on my boat, I find certain screwdrivers and wrenches that work particularly well. Maybe it's a scrwdriver that gets to the distributor cap screws really...

2002 volvo penta 5.7 Liter idles but stalls when throttling up

These were my thoughts as well. should be able to look into the bowl, move the throttle by hand, and see fuel come out through the squirters. That would show that the accelerator pump is set up properly. The float height is externally adjustable if the bowl has a window or a level screw that...

Sea Ray 180 sig series termite/water in ski locker rot

Try a belt sander with a coarse belt. The belt sander will not make a cloud like the angle grinder will. It will also leave a flatter surface. ;) I duct taped a vacuum cleaner hose to the dust bag outlet on mine and it blew most of the dust out through the hose, which I draped over the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Your rear seat passenger looks cold. If you find a fail-safe reminder to raise the lower unit and not drag the skeg, let me know. If you ever consider a Skeggard, I will personally endorse that brand. I thought it was allot of money, but it has saved (what's left of my) skeg twice already.

Oof! Makes me wonder if the block has any freeze damage.

Yes, there is one more layer that you may need to remove. That flat area along the keel is plywood that has been glassed over, and likely foamed underneath. If that is rotten, it will have to come out as well.

    NEED HELP!

That really IS strange. I wonder if they introduced it in '03 and put it in the '04 brochure, but those don't pull up for me. I didn't see it in the '03 brochure, but maybe it just didn't make the cut because it didn't have a photo shoot in time. The Caravelle site is not very active, but...
