    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I just got off the phone from ordering 3 more taps to the tune of $61.54 each. I also ordered a couple more drill bits for good measure, and the spotfacing stop collar that I was supposed to get with the initial order. With shipping and handling the new bill is $275.00! The initial order was...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I finally got started repairing the crack on the block. (The lawn tractor repair got priority.) I got off to a bit of a rough start, aesthetically speaking. Working from left to right, I set the first pin too deep, which leaves a hollow ring. It's sealed. It just looks stupid. Good thing...

Rust-Oleum. Takes longer to dry, but lasts and lasts. If you're in a hurry, Krylon.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I think you are on the right track. Your logic is sound. When the engine is cold, it likes the excess fuel. Same as being choked. That carb can't handle much pressure before it bypasses the float needle. Probably 2 - 4psi? At that point, the fuel needs to stop, or return to tank until there...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Hmmm... QJ, you say. Quadrajet is fairly simple. Float height perhaps? Needle and seat not sealing when the bowl is full? Idle air circuit mixture screws let more air in as they are backed out. If the carb is from a larger displacement engine, it may not lean up enough. In that case...

I totally understand that situation. Guys like us... when we can't play with the toys we have, we build more for that "one day". I hope you at least get a day here and there. Enjoy those for now.

Yes, there are two cracks. I repaired the lower one by brazing while I had the engine torn down. You have to put a ton of heat into a block to do that. Unfortunately, I failed to see the upper crack. Now that the engine is back together and in the boat, Lock-n-Stitch makes more sense. No...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I got my materials ordered to fix my 7 1/2" long crack. $355.74 for everything including tax and shipping. That includes pins, drill bits, tap, spot facing tool, cutting fluid and special thread sealant. They are also sending a thumb drive with all their videos along with written instructions.

I got the JB Weld off of the crack and mapped it out. At least well enough to drill a couple of small holes to determine casting thickness. That helps the people at Lock-n-Stitch to determine which pins to put in your kit. I sent them an email with this photo and the thickness info and...

Well, progress is progress. I managed to replace my failed chinese stereo for the second time so I can listen to music while I work. I went with a different brand of junk this time. Maybe I will have better luck. With that out of the way, I tore down the engine to access the patched area...

She trusts me not to hurt her, it seems. She only leaves my side if I start an engine, or if someone else walks up. ...and the attitude. LOL

Getting ready to Attack the Crack. I still plan to use the Lock-N-Stitch method to fix the crack in my engine block. This year I am putting the boat AHEAD of fixing the lawn tractor. Not going to miss another boating season. Last summer was so hot that I just gave up trying to work on the...
