PAINT!
Well, just first coat of primer but so glad to get to this point. It was brutal hot, went through 3 shirts and 2 towels, wore long sleeve shirts and the towel around my neck to keep the sweat from falling on the boat.
The 2nd coat will go on tomorrow and then color later this week. The primed part will be light beige (Internatinal Harvester white) and the unprimed area will be white. I still need to do some fairing and there is white on the cap so I decided to wait and fair and paint when the boat is finally right side up again.
I am really satisfied with the out come so far, glad I took my time and kept fixing things.

Are you spraying ? Might set everything up the night before . Get outa bed around 4 or 5 am . Mix and shoot before the temps turn into a convection oven …

Thanks guys! Got the 2nd coat of primer on today and let it sit in the sun for just a few minutes.
Tod, looks even better today but yes to finally have a uniform color is great.
Sam, I am using WOG method but instead of rolling and rolling I am rolling and tipping, liked how that worked for me on the inside of the hull and I got into a groove so hope it goes as well.

I was able to put the first coat of color on the boat today. Got a late start because I needed a new Respirator and then while I was painting the FL weather decided to whip up a 15 minute downpour and then more light rain after that.

I did get the 2nd coat of paint on Friday. I am doing some of the fairing on the molded stripes until I can get the boat flipped back over, hopefully in the next week. I bought this steering wheel a while back thinking and hoping it would be a close match to the International Harvester white of the boat, I think that is good to go, besides when the advertised color of the steering wheel is light buck I had to get it.

I finally got the boat flipped back upright! We ended up redoing a bathroom, I had told the admiral that July would be the month for that project, and of course everything took longer than I thought it would, just like the boat.

When I flipped it a year ago I had help from 2 neighbors. I don't trust the strength of the sides of the boat to carry weight of the whole boat so I decided to flip it end to end. We got it done but I did not like it when gravity kicked in as it came down, luckily we got it done and my neighbors are still friends but it made me rethink how I would flip it back.

I didn't want to build a gantry but instead realized our big oak trees could be a gantry. I bought a cheap block and tackle from Northern Tool, mainly geared toward game hunters but thought it would work for what I needed. The hardest part was getting the boat to the tree. I used the pulley system to get the front of the boat up about 8' and with the weight on the transom bottom 2 neighbors and myself flipped it back over and easily got the trailer under it.

Now it is fairing and painting the cap then putting it all together!

Hey guys I have a few questions to ask and appreciate any feedback. Because I redid and raised the transom and how it was previously covered with an aluminum box, I have no idea where the stern eyes were mounted. I have a rough idea where to mount but also see that some boats have them mounted straight up and down and some at an angle. Is there a benefit to vertical or angled and is there an exact spot they need to be on the transom? Also I am going to overdrill the holes, fill and then redrill smaller holes to the size of the threaded rods. I do not have any polyester resin right now and will have plenty of total fair left which is an epoxy. Could I use that to fill the holes instead of buying more polyester resin and milled fibers? I do have plenty of cabosil.

I think I would have issues with the strength in regard to towing or skiing. You also would want the strength of the milled fibers.

Big washers or plate would be the ticket on the back side of the eye .
Just don’t over size the hole too much . Just enough that you can redrill and remain sealed with filler .
Your painting so would think epoxy be fine . Maybe chop a little fibers if you want but probably not necessary. Vertical installation I think is the norm . Same angle as the sides of the hull at that point .

Hello all, time for an update! I keep telling myself this is not a classic '60's muscle car but I couldn't stop fairing and sanding. I got frustrated a few weeks ago because it was still so hot and humid here in central FL, I couldn't keep the sweat off the boat and it would gum up the sandpaper. Fortunately we had no damage from hurricane Ian, just a mess in the yard so I got a lot done this last weekend and then got primer on the cap and the side molded stripes yesterday. Even though I have a crazy busy week coming up in am hoping to get some color down soon. The splash well was the hardest part to deal with, happy with it now but as you can see all the different shades of green on top of the white polyester fair, what a pain. Getting closer!
