    Horn is driving me insane

Geez, it would seem to me like an aircraft technician would have checked voltage to his switch prior to replacing a horn, no? There is NO difference in the logic required to troubleshoot when servicing a boat OR an airplane...... My bet is you WILL learn (get frustrated enough) to do your own...

    Hydrofoil

In my mind, a 20' toon with a 90hp 4 stroke is not going to benefit much from ANY more weight placed on the transom. We do agree on the so called "hydrofoil". Complete nonsense. Focus on optimum engine height and a prop maximized for your purposes will likely win in the end....

    Hexatoon vs. Pontoon

From where I'm sitting, I can see a potential big advantage regarding the flat bottoms of these 'toons. Instead of the extra weight, drag, and expense of "lifting strakes" These flat bottom 'toons would clearly have much the same effect - WAY more efficiently! On paper anyway..... Congrats on...

Re-power options 25' 1996 Brunswick Spectrum Cruise DLX pontoon

<<<I'm def am NOT a boat mechanic.>>> Me neither! I retired after 20 years in IT, hardware and software, with a big chunk of database management tossed in for good luck! I could never do that for a living, but I sure like messing with it when I feel like it!

Re-power options 25' 1996 Brunswick Spectrum Cruise DLX pontoon

I'm 70, currently a snowbird commuting between a lakefront home in SE MI, and a second home near the FL Gulf Coast (far enough away where I don't need to worry about hurricanes or flooding, close enough where trailering just takes a few minutes). I've had a pontoon tied up at a dock in the front...

    Strange Motor Behaviour.-

So what is your issue, exactly? Are you saying you lost 2-300 rpm on a wide open run as compared to the last time you checked? You said earlier you were going to change a coil to see if that helps. Have you done that yet? And 700 hours is nothing on an outboard. Most given just decent care...

Re-power options 25' 1996 Brunswick Spectrum Cruise DLX pontoon

I have 23" tubes under my Honda 90 powered 24' boat. Re-power was done during an entire rebuild project where the boat was taken down to bare alum. I started with a floor plan very similar to yours. The 4' front deck was shortened to 18" by moving the entire railing system forward, creating a...

Re-power options 25' 1996 Brunswick Spectrum Cruise DLX pontoon

I was looking at that white area in the first pic. In my experience, that's going to be pretty close to where it's actually sitting. With no other changes, yes, that's very likely going to be a "low rider" with a heavier (400lb) motor. Jack plate, which would move the motor back further by...

Re-power options 25' 1996 Brunswick Spectrum Cruise DLX pontoon

I'm looking at the waterline in that first pic, which makes it appear the boat is already sitting on the low side with the original motor (more than half of the toon is already under water!). Wondering how much lower it's going to sit with ANY additional weight back there. FYI, a 50-60 hp 4...

    Thinking of getting a sailboat . . .

I would avoid a white deck. Hard to keep clean, and the sails are bright enough (too bright really) on a sunny day. Make it something friendly to your eyes, an off white maybe. And unless it's going to be a trailer sailer, roller furling is about the best gift you can give yourself.

Anyone use synthetic nylon winch cable? Or anything besides steel?

Do/use what you want, but I'm a strap convert here. I'd much rather deal with a strap when it let's go unexpectedly, and I don't have to worry about it stacking up wrong on the winch. I use as much as I need to reach the back of the trailer, and no more, to keep the mechanical advantage as best...

    Pontoon Motor Selection questions

Consider a 4 blade prop as a good compromise prop..... Great while maneuvering around the dock, great for getting a tube "on top", and great to hold the boat on plane at the lowest speed possible.

    Pontoon Motor Selection questions

Very sorry if it sounded like I was discounting your note in any way. That was not my intent. I just wanted to reinforce the "right prop" plan for our OP. No intention on bragging up the Honda's either. They're what I run, and I know them inside and out, so I can share experience gained. If we...
