    1998 Merc 150 Stiff Steering

Pretty familiar with that process. If nothing else, you can start there, and while you have it apart for cleaning, turn the steering wheel. If it's not turning freely at that point, as in easily able to turn with one finger, all the cleaning in the world done in the area of your current focus...

    1998 Merc 150 Stiff Steering

That video just shows one of the places that can cause stiff steering. The better plan might be to have him do some preliminary trouble shooting and get back to you with an estimate. Don't be real surprised if the area being cleaned in your video has nothing to do with your actual problem. An...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

Instincts taught here will be invaluable. All you need to add to that will be some local boating experience. Hopefully, you won't get the hell scared out of you in that process! Best advice I can give is if there is any reason for a raised eyebrow, make sure you are minutes from your trailer -...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

If not done correctly on inspection, you still have a chance at shaming them into doing it correctly. It would only take a minute....

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

I would set the trailer bunks under the stringers. Or in other words, I would get the distance between the stringers from the boat, then set the trailer bunks at the appropriate distance. Having a basic mistrust of marina workmanship (a REAL good plan in my experience) I would NOT assume the...

    Pontoon Hardtop

Mine is just a sq. alum. tube frame, maybe 1.25", bows on 2' centers, with the same alum. skin as used on RV's. It IS just about keeping the sun off of you. Amazingly, it's holds SE Mi. snow load really well.

    Pontoon Hardtop

Is there really a need to raise and lower this top? I've had a 10' top on my boat for quite a while, and it's been "up" the entire time. This would include the twice annual trip to and from the boat landing for seasonal launching/pulling.

    Buying a 2021 Sylvan!!

That's the issue with an OEM tow bars right there "cost a grand". That and trying to find one that will fit for your 5 year old boat - even if you were willing to spend a grand! The issue with the aftermarket/universal types is the fact they specifically tell you not to pull a tube. That there...

    Trim tilt reversed

It sounds like the wires going to the tilt/trim motor are reversed.

    Advice on cleats

Lines run over the fence sound like an issue waiting to happen to me. Maybe install something on the "M" bracket that goes between the deck and the pontoon?

    Trim tilt reversed

Is it doing the same thing from the front remote control and the one on the side of the motor?

Shift Shaft removed, now can't get back into gear

Good job! I would note for anyone following later that the wrench is fine, but not really necessary. There's not that much torque required to turn that shaft. If you're careful not to bugger up the splines, pliers will work fine for what needs to be done. FWIW, -Al

    RPS

I'm familiar with the steering arm issue. It is what it is. Super stupid on the part of motor manf's (Honda and Mercury that I have experience with personally). They used some type of steel (or cast iron?) to make the tube the motor steers on, and this rusts to nothing from the inside out, in an...

resistor type spark plugs or not?

After learning the hard way, I agree with Matt. I had a flat spot in a 40hp Johnson make me nuts for most of a summer a few years ago. To keep this as short as possible, the issue turned out to be the non resistor spark plugs emitting noise that was affecting the engine's ignition power pack -...

Shift Shaft removed, now can't get back into gear

I made this same move not too long ago, and I know better. I was not happy..... The first time I did this, I pulled it all down. The second time I couldn't get the bearing carrier to budge, so I ended up messing with it long enough to come up with a way to fix it - without pulling it down. If...

    1988 Mastercraft prostar $7,800

The problem with straight inboards is they're a pain in the butt for newbies to maneuver at low speeds. Once you've had one for a couple of years you get pretty good at it - unless the wind is blowing the wrong way. I don't think there are many boats that will get up on top as quickly as a...

    Horn is driving me insane

It sounds like you know how to get through this. I must have misunderstood.... "Now my horn doesn’t work. Tested on a battery and it’s dead. Bought a new one installed it and still doesn’t work." You clearly know how. It's far more likely this is about the patience that it takes to get the job...

    24' Sunesta in 20' slip??

Assuming the marina is OK with it, the only issues I can think of might be when/if the need arises to access the back of the boat. Like maybe when covering it, or using snap hooks on the transom eyes for you mooring ropes.
