I just let him know cause I have the same motor they are getting plus they are a foot longer than mine not a expert by any means just a starting point.
I know you love the Honda motors I have never run one so cannot compare
any facts to the Merc. Mine has a good hole shot and runs around 5,300 to 5,400 rpm's wot.
Very sorry if it sounded like I was discounting your note in any way. That was not my intent. I just wanted to reinforce the "right prop" plan for our OP.

No intention on bragging up the Honda's either. They're what I run, and I know them inside and out, so I can share experience gained. If we were swapping BS over a beer, and the topic came up, you would see I'm clearly a 4 stroke fan. Makes very little difference here which brand. They're all winners....

No troubles there I love the 4 stroke's too if we lived closer I would take that beer with you. I always had little tinnies with outboards 2 stroke's loved them then I finally got a big boat 19ft. was big to me with the I/O had a couple of them and realized not the way to go now 4 strokes outboards for ever.

my guess is the dealer would probably suggest a blackmax 13 pitch for this boat. CT motors have 2.38 lower end rather than the 2.07 which gives greater thrust which is good for moving heavier loads from dead stop although some top end is sacrificed.

My goal is good overall performance. Not looking to tweak it for top end speed at WOT or to pull tubers. I am guessing 60-80% of the time it will be my wife and I and we will have 6-8 people on weekends.

I have always carried an extra prop and fuel line. In this situation, it makes sense to see how the stock prop works with light and heavy loads. Once I gather up that info, I may purchase a 12 or 14 if it seems like the 13 is not quite right. 13 would end up being the spare. BTW - I have never mashed a prop. I carry a spare in case the unthinkable happens.

Learned a few lessons with my Lund Rebel 1450. I had originally powered it with a honda 30 and it was barely enough motor for that boat. worked pretty good with light load, but took a lot to plane with medium load. Two props was the short term solution that worked fairly well. ended up moving to a merc 40, and the 10 extra HP made a huge difference. Secondary lesson - EFI is the way to go. The honda was a good motor but had a few fuel issues that were a pain to deal with.

The other big mistake I made was on a lund Explorer 1750. At the time, 4 strokes were still new and boats were not build for extra weight in back. Boat ran great but fell off plane way to fast at slower speeds which was rather annoying.

Looking forward to getting out on the water soon. Ice should be out in 4 weeks or so.

Consider a 4 blade prop as a good compromise prop.....
Great while maneuvering around the dock, great for getting a tube "on top", and great to hold the boat on plane at the lowest speed possible.

Thanks - do you have an opinion on spitfire? Thinking 13 pitch 4 blade might be a great fit for all around . Stainless is probably not worth the extra $$ in this situation.

Prop Finder Recommendations are below using 21 ft pontoon, CT90, hull weight 2150. The X factor is how much the lift strakes help. Probably enough to toss out the 12 and maybe enough to think 3 blade 14 pitch is a reasonable choice for occasional heavy load.

It should not be too hard to sort out which direction to go after a few trips on the water. At the end of the day we are talking 2-3 MPH on top speed which does not matter to me as much as overall handling and responsiveness.

I was thinking more along the lines of an inexpensive alum. Solas 4 blade. I have a much tougher time justifying anything more expensive....that's me though!

that is one thing you have to take account when using prop finder. It will only give you a limited range of brands on recommendations. I am all for saving some $ and will check into the Solas.

update - I am close to completing breaking and expect to be there over the weekend. It came with a 13 pitch and that is doing fairly well overall so far. I have not gone to wide open yet but briefly took it to 4500 RPM and speed on GPS was reading 22 mph with about 500lb load. will have 6-8 people out this weekend which will help me understand light vs heaver load better.

Getting in and out of our slip is challenging because we have a full row behind us. If I need to change the prop, I think the 4 blade makes sense.

The factory 13 pitch seems pretty good so far. I am close to done with break in now. 4500 RPM with 2 peeps was reading 22 mph on GPS. have not pushed it to wide open yet. will be taking 8 people out today and that should give more info too. very impressed with how quiet the motor runs. this is my forth 4 stroke so I expected it to run quiet, but it is better than I thought it would be.

Glad your happy with your new toon you are right with the motor so quite, I have anchored before set the anchor put in neutral and forgot to turn off the motor till I notice the water coming out of the pee hole on the motor. Docking them into the slip is not to bad they will turn sharp with a little gas on the throttle just takes some getting use to but if winding does make everything a little tougher with a toon.
If you do get the four blade prop make sure and report back I do need to get a spare prop on board I have the ENERTIA Merc. and love it but I quess they do not make any more so not sure what to pick up for a second prop.
Have fun on the water today stay safe.

Thanks for the response. No restrictions on our lake, but we are going to be cruisers and don't see much need to pull people or go fast. Thinking the 50 High Thrust is probably good enough to get 15 MPH give or take. I am 100% sure a 90 is more than enough, but not as sure about the 50 high

I'm confused. What is a high thrust motor?
My experience with two-stroke outboards has been thrust is determined by horsepower, pitch, and proper material? Is there something else missing? Are these outboards designed to have more torque?

High thrust refers to the gear ratio in the lower unit. They set it up to run more diameter to get more thrust. Add a 4 blade prop to the picture and you get some great thrust that works out nice for windy day docking for instance....

If you see/hear the term "Bigfoot" it's the same deal....
