Welcome to iboats. Could be missing a torque tab, or needs adjusting, or a severely twisted and bent skeg. If you post a couple more times, the software will let you upload photos. Please post a photo of the outdrive - side view, and one from the rear. Try to show the bottom 2 feet of the...

2002 optimax runaway rpms when starting

Not being real familiar with the opti's, I doubt you would have a carbon caused runaway, but maybe. Totally computer controlled???? Guessing that is where the problem is.

Well, my actual experience was with a new 4500# 2016 tow vehicle rated to tow 3500#. I was towing 2000# with 500# of humans inside the tow vehicle. Coming down a hill in a tourist town, 25mph, crosswalk full of people at the bottom of the hill. Could NOT stop. Luckily the road cleared and no...

Need some way of identifying model # for a 1990 Force 90HP

Blue Fin, spectrum, brunswick, fisher, and.... have all been bought-sold-relocated-combined-split up, several times over the last 30 years. I doubt you will find any shipping or sales records from boats sold 30 years ago.

    steering cable?

Buy an entire helm with cable. You can often get a really got price that way. $160-$200 And you will be certain to get the correct cable. You're gonna have to remove the motor either way.

Need some way of identifying model # for a 1990 Force 90HP

There you go. I vote for 806F90C. The model number changed every time the used a part from a different supplier. I can't believe you have to register that motor.

Need some way of identifying model # for a 1990 Force 90HP

Often the starter has a tag with info on it, but probably faded by now. What specifically do you need the model number for? Photos of ignition plate and fuel pump should help to verify.

Replaced stater and rectifier, still no spark in one cyl

If the spark would not jump a .030 gap, there is the issue. I would swap your # 1 coil assembly with your #2 coil assembly. Then check for spark again. If the issue moved to #1 cylinder, then you need a new coil. I'm pretty sure the plug wire is part of the coil, so don't try pulling them apart.
