    Bravo 3 Measurement Request

I've found duct tape to be superior to any strap covering, oem or otherwise Works good on older aq vovlo drives too, for those that cross post here

    Alternator wiring issues

50 amp breaker is ubiquitous on mercs. 90 amp fuse was added 20+ years ago as a failsafe towards alternator/main harness circuitry Not exactly necessary but according to nmma/marketing/liability it's a part that makes sense

    Spark plug heat range

Plugs look fine to me, as usual. If anything a bit rich but nothing to fret over Would guess based on mid range stumble as the complaint the power valve spring is too tight or there's debris in the lower port Not a bad time to check/re adjust valve springs given the post break in near 100 hrs mark

    Alternator wiring issues

Fuse needs to be mounted on the starter main post with alternator and main 12 volt harness supply on the output side to protect not just the reg/rectifier on the alternator but also the main harness and associated circuitry Older models did not have the fuse so its possible to abate the fuse...

Installing driveshaft housing on to bell housing Bravo 3- do I need sealant between housings? + what kind of grease for shaft?

The snout on the driveshaft housing seals against the aft side if the u joint bellows. The retainer ring in the snout fits inside the bellows keeper ring allowing the drive and bellows to seal Other than that the o ring kit seals the water passage, gear oil passage and shift cable...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Just to be sure when you disconnect the shift interrupt is it at the shift plate mounted to the engine/riser? Long thread and forget all that's been done but have you checked/replaced the spark plugs? Firing order correct? Check/set timing/idle?

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Has nothing to do with alignment, it's most likely the shift interrupt switch engaging incorrectly due to a worn/faulty lower shift cable When you say motor doesn't crank do you mean it won't turn over or won't start/run?

I've found optima batteries to be one of the most unreliable brands out there, ymmv

    Quicksilver transom assembly replacement

A 2A prefix serial number is of later vintage than 2008 for sure, how new I do not know but would guess within last 5ish years? Being a quicksilver brand with boat located overseas from US would guess that it's more a global product identifier than mercury brand. Yes still both brands made in...

Have you checked the fuses located in part A of the wiring diagram you posted ?

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Broken wire aside you need to get rid of that post clamp and get a real battery with threaded posts

    Oil Drain plug

The threads are stripped or the hex head? If the hex is stripped use a vice grip and heat. If threads are done you may need a new pan, or at least a new insert for the plug. Water in the crankcase for years sounds detrimental to the crank/rod bearings and who knows what else. You may be...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Check for melting where the lower cable runs next to the exhaust May be time to replace it, they're good for 5-10 years on average

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Its the one on the bell housing between the water outlet port on the drive and the bell housing. Which if misplaced or missing would leak at that seam, but probably still pump water up to the t Stat housing. Like others have said you most likely have a melted lower shift cable and that is what...

    Rochester 2gv

That's a mercury pubIished book but more like an owners manual. Still good info but not as detailed as a fsm. Ebay would be my first source if I needed manual 1, 2 or 3. Start there

You should buy a mercruiser factory manual. Most likely 2 or 3 depending on s/n. Most of the questions you post here can be answered with the manual. With the manual you get the factory spec for your engine/fuel/ignition system. Here you get mostly good/correct answers but again, public forum...

Based on those numbers the engine is fully broke in. There's no need to not go wot as long as you like as long as you aren't experiencing pinging/detonation Iirc this carb is a used/rebuilt replacement for the original? You can still rebuild the old one, check the jet size in that and compare...

Your plugs look fine to me I've commented before and based on your threads I'd say your okay Carb issues aside, seems your ignition system is tip top. Curious as to how many hours since the rebuild. Also, number of/time of wot runs

    Bravo 3 anodes and mercathode

If you're only salt water, zinc is best If you're 50/50 salt/freshwater, aluminum is best If you're freshwater only, magnesium is best Add the mercathode for extra protection of you want. Explanation was for others to understand fully the purpose of the mercathode system
