    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

It's not acting up for the shop but they did confirm some important things for you Go boating with a spark tester and a helper, hope it acts up and report back your findings

    1986 Mercruiser 470 water leak

Yes. Some, if not all the bolts require sealant. Perfect seal, gasket sealer or permatex thread sealer

    Needing help/ 4.3 mercusier

A cracked block due to freeze damage, corrosion, etc can still run perfectly with good compression Best way to find out if the cooling system is sound would be to drain and pressure test it. Should hold 15 psi indefinitely, if not you need to locate the source of the leak

    Ignition wire replacement

Firing order is 1-3-4-2 May have to TDC #1 compression stroke to find #1 on the dist cap

    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

You need to find out if you're losing spark or fuel upon shutdown/no start Pretty simple check, spark tester for ignition. Verification of fuel present at/in the carb. With the choke open you should see two steady streams of fuel when the throttle is advanced quickly

    Mercruiser and a kicker motor

Couple options depending on the fuel tank. If there is another fitting in the tank for a pickup you could go that route. Otherwise install a shut off/directional valve in line between the tank and main engine fuel inlet

1993 Mercruiser 7.4 - Is my Problem Carb or Thunderbolt IV module

And vacuum Will say if fuel pressure/vacuum tests good its way cheaper to rebuild a carburetor than update the entire ignition system

Alpha One gen 2 outdrive gasket pushing out

Could be the o ring at the water passage moved outside the shouldered area upon drive install. Best to use a couple light dabs of bellows adhesive to hold it in place to avoid the o ring moving

1996 Sea Ray 215EC power steering belt and alternator belt

Remove belt, take to auto parts store, have them match belt, install new belt

    Motor won’t turn over

Probably needs more throttle. Carbureted engines don't start as easily as efi equipped. Need to set the choke and advance the throttle before starting

    Won’t idle 3.0 Mercruiser

Head gasket, tuliped valves, detempered rings, etc... Guessing a valve job at a minimum, won't know for sure until you pull the head

    Won’t idle 3.0 Mercruiser

Agree with Kenny on compression test and locating impeller pieces Will add that 160 is too warm, most likely need a 143 degree thermostat. Verify actual temp with a laser thermometer

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

No, he's referencing the tool used to tighten the retaining ring for the input shaft bearing assy. The torque wrench attaches to the end of the tool which is roughly 12" long, therfore the amount of torque applied to the retaining ring with the tool using a standard torque wrench does not match...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

Right? And here I thought the engine didn't run well, or at least there's a vibration under load Something as simple as #5 and #7 plug leads being swapped can have the same effect you're describing. Especially on a twin setup with one engine 100% sound makes any slight issue with the other...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

Based on your posted findings I'd say the engine alignment isn't the cause of the vibration and is most likely okay. Being as the boat came from a shop and the issue arose right after the repair first item I'd check is the firing order along with condition/quality of tune up parts. Next would...

    1970 181 to a 1978 181 different engine harness?

Gonna guess the 1970 model was equipped with an ammeter, hence the difference in harness plug. Best bet for success is to use the entire 1978 package from pulley to prop including the power trim system. Would mean r and r of the entire transom assy but at least you know it'll work. Plus at this...

    Bah. Water in bellows.

Quad ring looks bulged in first pic, around the 5, 6, and 7 o clock positions. Doesn't appear to be much water in the bellows. Perhaps condensation? Shaft o rings aren't for sealing water or oil, they are to dampen vibration between the splined shaft and gimbal bearing. Light oil/grease at...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

Once the tool end enters the coupler snout it may require a hammer to fully seat the tool end in the coupler. Once seated fully you hammer the tool end up, down and side to side to align the gimbal bearing Then remove the alignment bar and inspect the grease witness marks to determine which way...

Stuck on dry land year 3

Like scott says, you need to provide more info. Engine make/model specifically helps. Serial numbers are best
