    Gee, clean and rebuild the carbs, rebuild the waterpump, change the thermostats, bore out the bad cylinder and install a new piston. Say $500 plus 20 hours of your time, vs the cost of a new engine, is something to contemplate.

    Gee, bypass the primer valve, after the motor starts (pinch the fuel line with a vice grip) and see if that helps. A leaking primer would allow raw fuel into the intake manifold. It is good for cold start, but after that it would cause flooding.

    You realize that any exterior plywood is laminated with waterproof glue? It never used to be, but the newer waterproof glues are cheap enough that CDX and other exterior grades come with it. Is marine ply still worth the extra cost? Even Tite bond III is waterproof.

    You can buy replacement gearcases for Merc V6's in different gear ratios. Most Mercs in the 70s and 80s (the 850 was the exception) used 2::1 gear ratio. It appears that Merc V6 motors used both 2::1 and 1.87 gear ratios. Why is that?
