Re: Vendetta restore

Thanks. I was hoping it was ok, I'll have to practice more before I get as good as you guys. I do need to make sure of one thing though, I need to sand it to scuff it up before I PB it in the boat right?

The bc beer is really good, almost octoberfest Sam Adams good. Hope it stays around.

Here's today's screw up, I forgot to do the eye plates before I put the transom some in so I had to squeeze them in and half *** them how ever I could. At least they won't be seen.

Not a bad days work. I'm really pleased with how things went except for my brainfart about the eye plates. Can't wait to get the transom done and move on to stringers.

Stringers capped and strakes glassed in

Got the main deck screwed down with pl under for strength but it was too dark for pics.
Today a squall line rolled in and blew some of my home made shelter down, lucky I took the time to cover the boat with a big tarp before calling it a day yesterday. Hopefully I can get the decking glassed in on Wednesday and get the flotation boxes done up. In trying to decide if I should put tops on the boxes or not, they had none from the factory. They will be covered by the topcap and the top of it only about 3 inches below the top of said cap so if water were to be that high inside the boat I'm already in trouble...lol.

Re: Vendetta restore

Oh. Almost forgot I have a couple questions for the more experienced gurus.

What size is the drain hole in the bilge on most bass boats? I forgot to measure that part before the demo.heh
Is it a must for that drain to be metal?

I read on UScomp site about the pourable foam being best used in 80+ temps, would it be as good If I were to set up a portable heater under the boat to heat it up a lil to around 80 and pour?

Re: Vendetta restore

Under 80*, the foam won't expand very well, and will use more foam to fill less space & provide less flotation......................

Order a drain tube & plug from iboats, tin, brass, plastic. Several sizes to choose from, I'd go larger then smaller......

Don't use 5/8" plugs for the bilge drain, those are normally live/baitwell drains......

Re: Vendetta restore

Mine had 1" plugs. I found some Brass Garboard plugs at Academy Sports that are one-way. Allows water to go out, but not in. Comes with the plug as well.
I used a heater when pouring the foam in mine. It worked well. I also used a heat gun to heat up the surface and also heated up the two parts prior to mixing.

Yeppers. Gonna be sweet. Is it jus me or is there some disease from rebuilding a boat that causes you to dream about working on it, in the dream you are doing something then you wake up and think....that's not a bad idea.lol.

Re: Vendetta restore

Guess what I was able to do today before the rain started..........

I also got the rear live well corners reinforced where there were some cracks.
It's too dark in there for the pic to show up but do I need to paint or coat the 1708 patches I put in the corners? I was thinking about using spray bedliner inside both live wells. Would that be good?

Also I still have to reattach the rear most part of the topcap that sits on the transom, what procedure would be best? 1708 on inside and out side in a couple 3 layers was what I was thinking since I need to build up a little between it and the top of the transom anyways.

Re: Vendetta restore

Lots of dings like this

A lil rash on the pad
IMG_20130324_152137_940_zpsc34674a5.jpg

IMG_20130324_152130_673_zpsa103f1a9.jpg

Are these areas where I use the fairing stuff?
IMG_20130324_152114_863_zps0acc7776.jpg

What is fairing anyways? Like pb?

Anyways, going to pick up my foam and paint next week. It's a 17.5 foot bass boat. Any ideas on how much paint ill need? I'll be using urethane enamel, priming first of course. Going white cuz it's clean looking any any striping will look good with it.
