Nothing exciting here just plugging along spraying paint on tin... sides shelves riveted back in, supports, 2nd coat inside hull, cabin bulkhead, transom cover and transom wood are sporting white as is most everything else in the garage. :heh:

I need some good weather to tear that glass heap down outside so I can get the trailer restored and the tin resting on some good wheels. Was going to start today, it's above freezing although a north wind at 20+ MPH will make it miserable.

In the mean time, I think I'll pull the tin off the old rotten trailer and turtle it inside for some outer hull prep and primer action.

Okay so that talk about the rotten heap motivated me to tear into it some. Removing some hardware and the faded out teak swim ladder. I also have on hand another swim ladder that's all aluminum and more in style with the tin boat I'm working on although a bit more challenging to attach to the transom.

So you guys who lurk about take a look and give me your opinion on which one I should spend time on restoring and using on the ole Chief.

Utility: simple ladder only

Form & function: teak swim platform

I prefer the look of a teak platform on the transom, but lots more maintenance, even if you epoxy it before spar

Paint is looking FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFrrrreshhhh! Nice job!!!

Teak, the more stylish, better looking, gives you the future option of adding sexy teak accents to the rest of the boat, easier to climb on and sit on, higher maintenance, swim ladder/platform of choice...:thumb:

Aluminum, the same boring stuff your boat is already made of, sinks faster, not too classy looking, hard to mount, tough on the climbing tootsies, looks like a swimming pool ladder...NAH!

But wait, let me tell you how I really feel...

Happy Friday!:watermelon:

The teak all the way, looks in good shape and an easy refurb........plus you never know when you will need to have someone "walk the plank"....:D

Cabin bulkheads riveted in place, since they're light weight I didn't see the harm in securing all the pieces down.

Since I have a supply on hand, I'm going to put some aluminum cut to size in the bottoms of the compartments rather than ply like originally equipped and rivet it down. I may put some sort of tool box tray liner on the bottom pieces so things won't rattle around.

Oh yeah I enjoyed all the comments on the swim ladder, thanks for the replies. I was also leaning towards the teak as was the admiral. Looks like I need to break out the sander and spar!

Water she is really looking good with the nice bright paint. The swim ladders uh yea... the one on the left looks like the one that was on my Chief. I removed it an it went into the scrap pile where it belongs. Without a doubt use the teak. It doesn't require being mounted above the transom presenting that gaudy appearance of a hoop above the transom. The teak is much sleeker and mounted down low.

Looking good man!

The original ladder has the cool factor (vintage starcraft cool) going for it...and I think it protrudes less...important if you're fighting a big Blue (or Sturgeon) off of stern.

My boats have always been fishing machines so can't comment on how "nice" teak feels on your wet bottom

Had a little time today so I went out to the garage, did a flip and got to cleaning. Not much done really but I do like the change in the Chief's appearance.
