Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

7 Days no updates on the thread wow, is this guy really trying to do nothing or be lazy or what. Well I guess the answer is who knows, I wish I could say that there had been more accomplished all I have to show are two pics today.

Anyways here is what has been accomplished over the last 7 days.

Coat it is done.
Noodles are in.
Splashwell is finished and riveted into place.
Aluminum rubrail trim is back on and in place.
Consoles are in.
Floor is down.
Ski Locker door is measured as soon as it is cut I will move on to the last coat of epoxy on the floor and move on from there.

That being said I've been lazy all I snapped was two quick pics.

I would imagine at this moment in life you are jealous of the chine bracing, however the wider splashwell complicates things greatly. Trying to figure it all out with no pictures and everything was rotten and gone when i brought it home is making things extremely complicated.

Hey Sigster - A double post doesn't mean you got twice the work done.

The bracing looks good and it also looks like you weren't real lazy with what you got done. :thumb:

Cheap decals online, the product quality is amazing, though my photography skills suck. They were ordered on Thursday and arrived today. Decals for the trailer, the larger starcraft logo for the boat and the boat name for $37 shipped. Cut from Marine grade vinyl and a 7 year warranty. The customer service was excellent I would reccommend them to anyone.

The decals are silver in person don't know why they look tan in the pics other than they have alot of sheen and the way the light reflects off of them is changing the color.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

So what can I say again I've been lazy hoping to get some serious work done on it this weekend though.

I've cut the ski locker in the floor

I've put the final coat of epoxy on the floor.

I was simply amazed at the difference the temperature makes in the way the epoxy reacts. Every other time I've epoxied it has been in the high 60's to low 70's, today when I epoxied it was 93, while i had plenty of working time every other time this I was mixing batches a pint at a time to extend my working time, and never even felt it kick while working. Today with the temperature difference it was kicking quick. Before it was a minimum 3 hour dry time this time it was dry after 1 hour. It has been a 2 day cure time and I am sure this batch will be cured by morning. It looks good though if anyone wants pictures of what applied epoxy looks like then feel free to look further up in the thread.

No BUT there is a VERY funny story associated with the wheel.

My little one has been with me every step of the way in this rebuild he typically goes out in the shop when I do at 9:30 am and hangs out with me all day while I work on the boat. Since this rebuild has started he has gone from not crawling to crawling to now grabbing onto things and walking with them. Yesterday I got the best father's day present ever he stood up and took his first step on his own.

Anyways today we went into the normal routine out to the shop I decided it would be cool to mock it all up and take a look. The little one crawled over grabbed the wheel (which wasn't attached). The wheel came off he stood there dumbfounded, realized he wasn't holding onto anything and fell flat on his butt and laughed.

CRAP I forgot to post this pic.

The plan was to mount the fuel gauge in the old hole and build a custom gauge cluster to sit ontop to house the tach, speedo, volt, and trim gauge just haven't decided the best way to do it I would love to arc it and mount it to the top so it looks as if its one customer piece but I just can't figure out how to do it.

Wow Sig, every time you look down at that helm, you'll remember that special moment with your son...pretty neat!

Dash looks great! I know what you're thinking about a separate gauge cluster...i occasionally see them on fleabay but nothing yet that would be simple to integrate into the SC console. Maybe fabricate an arced faceplate out of PLY and cap it with some sheet aluminum? trimming the front-edge/overhang could be tricky...rubber edging glued in place might be the ticket?

Chris you hit my gauge cluster idea on the head. That was exactly how i planned on doing the gauge cluster the concern that I had however was how to arc the aluminum down and get it to lay flush on the top of the console. It is actually pretty tough design but I think if I can pull it off it will be worth it. That is another part of the reason that I put the fuel gauge in the old slot instead of patching it I think it will be easier to build the cluster with 4 gauges rather than 5

Might consider a, now don't flinch, fiberglass gauge pod :twitch:....

Plastic even..........

And then of course you could try making your own pod....

Had to register to see pix, but pretty good tutorial...

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

I've considered fiberglass but frankly my glassing skills suck. Sometimes a man has to know is limitations and that is mine. I don't know about buying a premade one as I have two different size gauges going into it. I know I could do it with ply or even a bendable ply but I am not sure about the aluminum and making it look decent. I think its obvious by now I am not going for the Mercedes of restorations but I really would hate to screw it up with something as simple as a gauge cluster.
