Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Not to much to show for my labors today.

Diagnosed a Faulty power pack on the Starboard side. Ripped the carbs of off the engine. If anyone is interested I have a TON of pics on the carb breakdown.

Showing proper float orientation someone correct me if I am wrong but is there a spring that is supposed to go from the float arm to the needle.

I actually found this in the carb body.

Incredible, a monster dust bunny that's fuel resistant! You could patent that sucker and make a fortune. :D

there should be a piece of wire that clips to the float plate and wraps-around the needle-top. I don't see it in the carb parts breakdown...maybe the PO took the parts list literally? :noidea:

Sig,

How much epoxy and how much Spar did it take to do the floors and transom?

Thanks

Bill

Hey Bill, I bought a gallon of Spar, and I bought the 4:1 ratio 2.5 gallon epoxy kit from US composites. It is 2 gallons of Epoxy, and 1/2 gallon of hardener. It seemed to do a good job, I used minimum three coats full strength on everything structural. 2 coats on everything else. Spar only nonstructual areas, after epoxying.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Not really to much to post today, as I basically wasted a day shopping for a new tow vehicle. I know the Trailblazer can handle the Starcraft but it really struggles pulling the pontoon on some of these back roads getting to the lake. I hate it because it was basically as waste of time. I think rather than trading in the Trailblazer I am going to save some $$$$ and regear the Trailblazer. Mine has 3.42 axles with 4wd which limits it to 4900 lbs. Adding an addition factory Tranny cooler, and changing to 4.10 axles boosts that rating all the way to 6500 lbs which I think will be much more adequate. Anyways enough of my ramblings.

The differnce in the carbs after a night soaking is amazing.

This weekend is going to be extremely busy. Tomorrow I have to do all of the neglected maintenance on the Trailblazer. Oil Change, Coolant flush and fill, changing the thermostat at the same time, then on to cleaning the throttle body. Spark Plugs, Check and fill the A/C blowing cool but not cold. Changing the Cam Position Sensor.

Then beyond that for tomorrow evening the admiral has roped me into dinner with some of her friends and hour away. Then home to cut the patterns for my upholstery. Probably wrap that up at around 2 am or so.

Then sleep.

Then back up again at 8 am to get my patterns to my friend who is going to sew them. after that is done back to the camper for my sister's birthday party.

Then start on putting the seats back together.

Waiting on the Power pack and Fuel pump and Water pump now.

Then a WHOLE crap ton of finish work.

Finally, something where I can give back. If you want to tackle the job yourself, here's a how-to article I wrote that will step you through it:

WOW that is a great article very very impressive. My plan though was to save the $$$$ and buy complete axles from a scrap yard and do a drop and go. Either that or maybe beg my tool and die maker uncle to give me a hand.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Obligatory Sunday Post. I was definetly NOT lazy this weekend. This weekend I started with a SIX HOUR oil change on the Trailblazer which sucked the owners manual says change the oil and filter once per year or when the light comes on. I changed the oil this time last year but the filter baked to the block so it took forever to get it off. I also cleaned the cpas sensor, changed the thermostat, flushed the coolant system, charged the ac and changed a module that controls which vents the air comes out (crappy job because the whole dash had to come out). That was all friday morning. Then Friday evening I cut all of the patterns for the upholstery and seats. Saturday morning all of the seats were sewn. Saturday afternoon was a birthday party, by the time I got home saturday evening I was so tired i couldn't sit straight. This morning before work I installed the new power pack, then started mounting vinyl and foam to the new seats.

Full weekend for sure.

Looking forward to seeing some vinyl work.

My new to me tow rig requires the intake manifold (plus some other stuff I can't name) to be removed to change the plugs. <<< Who thought that was a good idea? And I'm due for a plug change :cold: :blue:

Fun stuff, I cursed every GM engineer in every country this weekend. That CPAS sensor I cleaned had to have the power steering pump removed, and to change the thermostat the alternator had to come completely out. It was ridiculous but doing all of that took me less time than changing the oil. Usually with a baked on filter the simple fix jam a screwdriver through it and done nope no room for a screwdriver. UGH anyways one more down. Hopefully tomorrow the new fuel pump will go on, then the carbs back on with anyluck the waterpump will get done as well. If I can run the engine I am going to bust hump to get it done in 12 days.
