Happy early father's & birthday, congrats, that's quite a haul!

I think mineral spirits aids in the 5200 cleanup.

Ace Hardware here has more selection, and better prices then HD or Lowes on stainless steel.

If you need a bunch of any 1 size, online maybe, I think LakeLover posted a link somewhere about low cost & low volume SS stuff, but I don't recall what site.

Hey - Early BD and Father's Day is good. :D

If 5200 didn't work as advertised, it would be the evilest, vilest stuff invented by man. Heck Jason uses it as deodorant and toothpaste. Yuck!

Yeah I am really excited, I am hoping she is going to start coming together really quickly now.

I don't know what happened but my local lowes just GREATLY expanded their stainless steel section. They had a whole wall of SS fasteners in there that they didn't have even two weeks ago when we were working on the pontoon.

Hey Sig great gifts for Fday and Bday, putting 5200 on is kinda like changing a dirty diaper, you get a little on your fingers and before you know it it's everywhere. Glad to see the first stages of reconstruction.

More transom work today. Filled in a few more holes on the transom and started rough fitting the splashwell.

She is starting to come back together, I cleaned all of the aluminum trim.

Sitting in place.

Loosely bolted into place as I am NOT opening another tub of 5200 until I am ready To bolt the motor and everything back in place.

I am mocking up and dry fitting everything right now and I have NO idea, why but the swim ladder doesn't seem to come even remotely close to mounting properly

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Let me bounce an idea off of everyone in here if you all wouldn't mind. Kind of give me some feedback, I am stuck at work so I am daydreaming about in the future running the electrical in the boat. One of my pet peeves is dangling and sloppy electrical, I am not an electrician, but it bothers me because dangling and untidy electrical work always turns into a rats nest, and nothing ever ends up working properly. So here is what I am thinking.

as evidenced by this pic there is a channel that runs behind the support for the rubs and hull support. I am thinking about using PVC pipe to run the electrical through the electrical switches and wireing through there.

The PVC will be covered by the plywood sides so won't be exposed to UV, PVC plumbing pipe is by its very nature water proof.

It will allow for a shorter run from the battery. It will also keep gravity from pulling the wires down, and prevent sagging.

The only real down side I can see is that if I had to get to the wiring then I would be that it would be a pain to service the actual wiring itself if I had to. The motor and control wiring is going up top though so in an emergency situation I could get to it easily.

The fuse box and fuses would also be readily accessible.

So in summary.

Pros

Less mess,
Less risk of a birds nest.
More protection of the wiring
No chance of gravity causing sagging wires

Cons

Much harder install
Less accessible if needed

I have thought about doing the same a couple of times but always opted against for the same reasons you listed. It always seems there is something you want to add at a later date, which means you have two runs of wiring and confusion. I have found the aluminum bands under the gunwale tops to work well, with the addition of zip ties.

I've gone the conduit route on a center console build (not much choice there)..not only ran the electrical but also put a large piece in for running steering/shift cables...never know when you'll have to replace those as well.

If you do decide to go conduit, go as big as possible, use minimal angles, run extra wires in addition to an extra pull cord if the additional wires weren't enough to tie-in all of your goodies!

Let me run this one past you, Sig. Run good sized PVC under the side shelf. Gets it up in the air to make wire running easier and will still be hidden. Behind the lower gussets is a tight area and if you you can get some in there, you will have to use a smaller size for flexibility.

Alternate ideas, just a variation on your original.

Ga I thought about your idea as well, just seems like gravity and time will take its toll on the zip ties and everything else. I rewired my tri hulll three separate times and using the crap under the gunwales but it always seemed to fall on my again. I pretty much just want this once and done as I really want the stuff wired.

At this point it will be bow and stern light, horn, radio, gauges, and auxillary power port, I will run an additional power feed for MAYBE a future depth finder also considering remounting the spotlight that I took off.

Additionally and miraculously the onboard charger that was on the boat when I drug it home works.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Well I enjoyed a weekend at the ocean with the family and the kids I have a LONG way to go if I want to splash this boat by July 30.

I left the boat outside while we were gone, I left the drain plug in, I did this intentionally as another redneck leak test. We had all kinds of rain the boat filled to the top of the ribs and when I got home it wasn't leaking a drop anywhere. I also tested the bilge pump that was already in it and it works very well.

This is kind of what happened today I started assembling all of the seat bases.

I am making a Lowe's run this week to finish getting supplies to wrap up the transom work. I am going to coat it this week as well, then Hopefully by Friday the floor will be back in. Then I will be respraying the transom.

Then hopefully I will rerun all of the electrical next week, then onto carpet, then upholstery. I am seeing this as doable.

I think I am still going to need 2 more sheets of plywood. The budget is starting to get a little thin.

hey sig, seat bases look great!

splash deadline is well within' reach ...

... as long as you found a mechanic other than the one that quoted you $1300 for a fuel pump

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

The fuel pump was on the pontoon, its a family boat, has been in the family since 1993 its a LONG story, but a heartfelt one. Basically it was my grand father's boat he passed away, we sold it the new owners moved and we bought it back. It hasn't really ran properly since we bought it back, but I've never been allowed to touch or do the maintenance on it. We ended up toasting the power head, got a full rebuild. I am pretty sure the first mechanic rebuilt the carbs to lean, and ignored all of the fuel alarms going off while we were essentially taking our boat back after 8 weeks sitting uncovered outside. The second mechanic disabled the VRO pump with the rebuild.

The boat still doesn't run right and I have finally gotten the rest of the family to cede control over repairing this. And I have decided I am going to start at square one rebuild the entire freaking fuel system, so that I know it is done properly and be done with it.

Thanks for the compliment Chris and if it wouldn't suck to ride on them I really like the way the wood looks, but I hated covering up my transom too.

Not to much to report, I did score an awesome deal I am having a friend sew all of my seats and bow cushions for $50.00 and a few rides on the boat. She did the seats on my last glasser I am very familiar with her work so I consider this to be a serious score.

$5.50 is cheap. At West Marine...they want $15 for a small tube.

West Marine is outrageous on their prices, shop around, look on the net, you'll find way cheaper prices even with shipping!
