Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

does your washer have a brake/stator that's engaged with a clutch on the pulley-hub? If so, sometimes that pulley needs to be indexed (with different width thrust washers) so that when the motor reverses direction, the tranny kicks-in to spin or agitate depending on position...or the brake lining itself is shot.

Too bad there's not an iwasher.com ...I have yet to find an informative/helpful appliance repair forum.

It doesn't the clutch and tranny are one assembly with a friction plate which I lined back up on the reinstall. The brake is built into the tranny.

My thought was start capacitor but I don't believe that to be the issue either, as that would keep the washer from spinning it has been suggest the timer assembly but I would think that if it were the timer assembly that the problem would be just on one cycle.

maybe you should stop trying to wash the epoxy out of your clothes... they're gone dude! :p

it's unfortunate that the casing isn't aluminum...would make a great donor for your tinny!

HOLY cow I never even thought of that.

SO ez is it your opinion that I should go with a 6 hp over an electric troller?

I don't troll so I can't really comment on one over the other. I was just saying that on that size boat, a 6HP should be able to go as slow as you want it to for trolling but also have enough thrust to get you home in the event the big motor dies.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

again I am falling behind it seems as if since the weather got warmer my time is becoming more and more divided. I wish I could say that I have been more productive but not a whole lot has happened since my last post other than more prep work for the final paint on the splashwell, the console, the bow seating support, and the compartment that sits under the splashwell.

The gas tank is fully painted I need 3 feet of fill hose ouch. My intentions were to keep a running total of all the material cost but, the problem is its $20 here $30 there, just this morning it was another $8 on another can of self etching primer. I never realized I could use so much sandpaper. I can show additional pics of what has been done if anyone is interested but once you see paint prep work it is all the same. I am hoping by the end of this week though all the paint or at least 95% of it will be done. My goal is to have the coatit done and the floor reinstalled by 05/29.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Murphy came to visit today.

Finally spraying primer on the cap, the consoles splash well and all the little pieces.

The cell phone rang it was the admiral. I ignored it the first time, then the text message thing went off I ignored it again. The phone rang again and I sat the paint gun down to answer the admiral before serious trouble started.

I kept the phone call brief but the hvlp gun fell, I thought I got lucky I didn't as soon as i picked the gun up I found the cup separated from the gun and primer splattered all over my shop floor. All over one of the consoles, and splashwell. It even flung over on my freshly painted black trailer.

I will F****** kill murphy if I ever meet the SOB

Ouch, that hurts. Good thing fresh primer cleans up fairly easy with some acetone. Hope your cup didn't get cracked.

Yes the cup cracked luckily I just use the cheap disposable harbor freight cups so it isn't any big deal.

If someone tried to call/text me multiple times in that short a time span.....they better be bleeding on the side of the road and in need of help.

Make sure to grab money out of her purse to pay for a new spray gun.

Wow, that Murphy guy sure seems to have your address at the top of his list Sig. But as Bll said I hope there was good reason for the phone pestering you while you were painting.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Soo its been a few days since my last post. I am over the murphy thing and what can I say I have been productive not as much as I maybe would have liked, but I have marked quite a few things off of the to do list. I have now completely finished painting the cap, splashwell, the consoles, and the bow seating piece.

I have finished cutting all of the pieces for the back to back seats, the console fronts are cut, the bow seating piece is cut, I have also made and mounted floor doublers for the floor.

She is starting to look like a boat again.

Tomorrow the plan is to cut the ski locker in the floor, then add epoxy to the underside of the floor and transom again, as well as all of the seats and consoles.

After that I am going to coat it and install flotation, then install the floor and epoxy over the top of the whole thing after installation.

Then reinstall the transom and motor.

From there to carpet, upholstery, electrical, and trailer wrap up.

Hopefully from there onto the splash.

don't worry about the little ring is just saw dust.

Building hint #87 - Don't put your beer can on the tinny without a Coozy. A sweaty beer can can leave rings.

You're getting a lot of good work done Sig. :thumb:

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Thank you Ga, it has been endeavor, but I am really trying to make that final push to get this thing in the water on JULY 30. Just a little over 2 months to go. On the plus side the camper is done, the pontoon is done and waiting to be launched. My entire energy is focused on work and the boat with the exception of one weekend and making sure the admiral doesn't feel abandoned. It starting to get warmer but since it is just my little one and myself at home during the day the boat has been turned into the BIGGEST playpen ever.

I did forget to mention that we had a new neighbor move in about 5 weeks ago. A really nice guy, his girlfriend and child. He has been watching me work on the Starcraft for the last little bit and coming over to the house and chatting with me while I have been working.

On Saturday he showed up with another project going on the back burner. He bought a fully rotted Phantom bass boat complete with broken transom.

I told him I would be happy to help him when the clean up and grinding is done. He is welcome to use shop space AFTER that mess is done.
