Re: The passing of Don S

I was very sad to find this news.
Don gave me a lot of advice and helped me sort out many problems. I was shocked to hear of his passing.
Does anyone have a picture of Don that they could share?

Like many of you, I am so saddened with his passing and loss of someone we can never forget.
I only had exchanged PM with him a couple of times and in one told him he was like Moses trying to lead us in the right direction. We'll miss him and it was only a couple weeks ago when he created this picture I'll never forget:

My deepest condolences to Don's family. He has lent me an irreplaceable wealth of knowledge over the years and took more time than some physical people to help resolve my boat problems. Although I only knew him on this forum; I feel that in a strange way, he was almost a friend. Don, you will be missed.

I will miss Don. I knew absolutely nothing about my engine and outdrive when I joined here. Bond-o will probably tell you i still don't, lol! However, he got me comfortable enough to try things myself and helped me to learn as I went. I appreciate all the help I get here, and Don helped make this place such a valuable resource.

RIP Don. I never dealt with you on here, but I never had a lick of trouble with you either. You'll be missed. May the boat in heaven never need a water pump.....

Re: The passing of Don S

As a long time sailboater I was really nervous about buying a Volvo I/O when I wanted a power boat.....my Dad even said I was crazy to consider it.

Then while researching Volvo I came across iboats and Don's posts.

His depth of knowledge and posting frequency convinced me that there was a resource at hand that would help me through it.....and I wasn't wrong....he helped me track down multiple pieces of info that saved me tons of time, money but most of all headache.

RIP Don

Like above, I wouldn't have ever considered an I/O if I hadn't have been a fan of Don's wisdom and posts. I ended up with a V-P very much because of the resources that Don contributed to this forum.

I actually appreciated Dons posting style. He liked to do things and have others do things-the right way.

A true loss.

My best wishes to Dons family.

Ayuh,.... I admit, I don't fear death, myself, but also don't deal well with the deaths of others,...

Especially, my Mentors,...

I can barely see my keyboard, 'n screen after readin' this thread,...

Since Bob called me late Sunday afternoon,...
I've been in Complete denial, 'n spent most every possible moment here on the forums, lookin' for Don's next post,...
This thread is the reality of life,...

Thank you gentlemen,... I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in my respect, 'n admiration of Don,...

Good bye my not near enough, but most dearest Friend, 'n Mentor,...
Rest in peace, you'll live forever in My mind,...

Another of Don's attributes not yet mentioned, is that he's also a Master Cabinet Maker,...

Thank you Bill. You have managed to express exactly how I feel. This is truly a sad time.

Don was a true friend and I have only the deepest respect for him. At times we saw things differently, and we respected each other for that. He was always there with guidance and help. As both a person and a resource here at iBoats, I seriously doubt we will ever see anyone quite as wonderful as Don S.

Condolences to his family, and the many friends he has made here. I have no doubt he will be deeply missed. For me, it will take a long time before I stop looking for his posts...

Much respect...

Chris........

Re: The passing of Don S

We are deeply saddened to announce that our dear friend, and incredible Moderator, Don S passed away on Thursday July 18, 2013. Frankly those of us on the forum that worked with him on a daily basis are devastated, and must find a way to replace the tremendous contributions he made here. We are forever indebted to Don for the professional approach he took to diagnostics, documentation and his overwhelming commitment to this forum. Frankly, he taught us how to run this place from a technical standpoint, and we will be forever trying to live up to the standards he set for us.

Don was a skilled woodworker, and a master of Photoshop. His "shopped" pictures will live on iboats forever. Don had a frank way of posting that did not always reflect that he was truly a kind and funny man. Those of you who never had the chance to speak with him missed a man that ironically could be described as Santa Claus on the phone. He always chuckled and joked and honestly had a jolly sound to him. We will all miss him greatly.

While we realize this announcement is a week old, out of respect we waited for the proper notifications of Don's passing to his family.

I will miss the advise and expertise of Don. May he rest in peace and his wisdom carry on. God Bless.

I have not posted on here since I had to sell my rig. But if there is a statement that would cover it for me about Don's contributions and endless education of us all would be that his knowledge and memory will haunt us forever! I owe most everything I know about the maintenance of boats to him R,I,P

While no doubt a straight shooter (which I have appreciated) I have reaped great benefit from Don's tremendous knowledge - especially on all things Merc.

A terrible loss for iboats but there is good news here: His knowledge and wisdom lives on right here in these pages. Us backyard mechanics can continue to wrench with his help.

Thank you Don for sharing such an invaluable resource with all of us.
