Sorry too hear about the weather, that sucks. I'm lucky to have a nice shop....hope the weather clears up for you soon! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your progress. Also I think those keel guards use some kind of double sided tape. I bought a scuff buster plate for around the bow eye on Miss Morgan, stainless, works great. It had some 3M double sided tape on it....just make sure you get it where you want it! It doesn't come off!

Once I get my boat done, my next project is a garage. I'm tearing down my old ugly shed and putting up a decent garage, for the boat of course. It was unexpected, and I was lucky enough to get a few hours of sunshine. The humidity dropped from 100 percent to 38 in a few hours. I decided to paint my trailer. Nothing fancy, just a quick rattle can. I wanted it to match my boat. And I will be on the search for some kind of keel guard for sure.

Looks nice! I think I got your humidity...been up under the bow installing carpet....Note to self, don't install carpet on 90 degree days with humidity! Keep on working when the weather permits, you'll be done before you know it!

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Weather was nice today so I was able to final start on my boat. Got one side started. Thank goodness for sanders. Not sure if I have to take the paint right off but want a nice smooth finish. I also used Interlux stripper on the transom but I'm so not happy with the results. You will see in the picture I took. I don't know, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm following the directions to a tee. (tee, tea, t?) But for 28 bucks a quart, I'd say this was bust.

This was after an hour and a half of sitting. And the second treatment I might add. Very dissapointed.

Well...either it's some tough paint or a weak stripper?

Glad the weather is cooperating with you finally at least:)

tallcanadian,
Trailer really looks good but that stripper looks like a total bust. I think I would ask for my money back at that price.
Once again the trailer looks great and I hope the weather cooperates for you..

did you roll your boat over, or how did you flip it? I think once I get the floor in my boat, I'm going to put the cap back on after I remove all the hardware and flip it to take care of the bottom so I can sand it, fair it and paint it proper.

I dropped it off the trailer and a young fella across the street came over and the two of us slowly turned it over. We rolled it on it's side and slowly rolled it down. Then we lifted each end and put the 2X6 on cinder blocks to keep it off the ground. Wasn't that bad. I'm only going to paint the bottom like this. Then I'm going to flip it back and put it on the trailer and finish the hull.

Looks good TC- you are making some progress! Just make sure that final sanding is perfect before primer. You don't want to do it a 3rd time:eek:

how thick is that hull on the sides? Mine is really thin from the waterline to the rub rail on the hull, but the cap is solid as all get go.

I'm not sure Red. I think it's all the same thickness. I've never measured the thickness. Good question though.

I am no expert on strippers, but that one may have hit the stage on amateur night:eek:. Seriously, too bad the product does not seem to work as you hoped. When something like that happens to me, I tend to get frustrated about all the wasted time, get in a hurry to "make up" time, do something I regret, and then try to fix that. Evil cycle. The patience you display is to be admired. Good luck with the weather.

The main reason why I thought I would try the stripper, I had this vision of brushing on the stripper and scraping off paint and all, with very little sanding. Wrong! So now I have a new vision. Sanding, sanding, sanding. LOL. Now as far as my patience goes, it is wearing thin. I should be on the water by now, but with all the rain it's just gross. There were things I had planned to do that I'm going to put on the back burner for now. I'm just concentrating on getting back on the water. I've got a week's fishing trip planned in July, and I'm going to use my boat.....hopefully.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Beautiful day today, so I took the day off from work. I was able to do some glassing on the the bottom and hull. Now I'm waiting for it to set. Bbq tonight. The wife is having some women over and myself and another husband has been volunteered to cook. Maybe check cam if your bored. Sheesh. I am hoping to get the primer on tomorrow and perhaps two coats of primer. I have been told to mix my second coat of primer half and half with the paint I'm going to use so I am going to try that. The 'experts' say it will give me a deep shine at the end. We will see. I picked up my outboard today from the mechanic. He swore on me..lol. said everything he did was a challenge. I guess all the years this motor was used in salt water took it's toll. I had to laugh at the impeller. Every fin was either cracked or very week. New seals in the lower unit, no more water in the crankcase. New tilt tube for the steering...very expensive in this part of the world. Plugs, filters and the like. Anyway, tomorrow is suppose to be nice. Primer I'm hoping.
