Actually our dollar is worth a U. S. dollar today.

Yeah it is but our stuff is still cheaper now since you guys still pay the 30-40% more for things. I wonder if they will come down on those things liek books and magazines. I know groceries probably won't come down but it might be nice eh?

My family has a couple of cabins on Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron.

I know, that really peeves me off. Everything is cheaper in the U.S. That's why I do all my shopping there.

They usually blame it on the dollar, but they can't these days. Now they blame it on shipping costs. And then on top of that, because I live on an island, there are additional costs for me. I'll give you and example. I know 3 years ago I was thinking of purchasing a new bayliner 17'. Nothing fancy. It would have cost me just about 20,000 dollars. I could have drove to Maine and purchased the same boat for just under 11,500 dollars. Makes no sense to me. I just puchased my trailer parts, tires, rims, fenders, axle and springs including shipping for the same as up here. Except, I got the EZ lube feature in the axle, galvanized rims and 16.5 X 8 tires. I would get that all up here. And shipping from BPS is so cheap, I spend a lot of money there. Their shipping costs depend on the amount you spend, not on weight and stuff. I have 2 boxes of stuff coming to me for 24 dollars freight. And they give me six months to pay it. Nice.

If you give me the HIN number I can tell you exactly what you have. HIN number is located on the top right side of the outside of the transom. This tells you everything about your boat.

I think a prevous owner painted over it many many moons ago...I can see the plate and BARELY make out some raised letters which I assume is the HIN...

Maybe I'll hit it with the paint thinner tonite and see what comes up...

It's not a metal plate. It would be, looking at the back of the transom, at the top right hand corner of it. A bunch of numbers and letters embedded into the gelcoat.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Well, woke up this a.m to this crap. I guess old man winter isn't done with us yet. Then we are suppose to get a couple inches of freezing rain, then 4 inches of rain. Then rain for the next 5 or 6 days. In the meantime, my spare room is filling up with boat stuff. LOL.

So I guess the next few days will be spent planning more and buying more stuff. (sighs).

Now what I do have set up is a cheap ip camera that I am going to use when working on my boat. For those who really have nothing to do. I have the link here. The user name is tallcanadian and the password is boat. When I get this work started I will also take pics and video, but thought maybe something live may be a bit different. It's a cheap camera and will lag a bit because its' wireless. I hope you all will enjoy the show. Right now I'm using it as a weather cam. http://tallcanadiansboat.dyndns.org:1010/Jview.htm

Well, de-construction has started. I thought i would take this day and start tearing down my boat. I removed all the lettering and pinstriping with a heat gun. It came off perfectly.
Here's a couple of pics about my shifter.
This is where it broke the last day I was out last fall.

This is what it's suppose to look like.

And this is the new one I got the other day from ebay.

Now this one has the key in it and the trim plug as well. Now I'm not going to wire this up this year. That will a project for another day.

I have a bunch of spider cracks that I have to address. My poor old boat takes a beating on the lake.

So I have most of the hardware off and the seats out. Also removed the rub rail. I had a bunch of broken stainless screws in the rub rail. I'll have to address that as well.

That's it for today. My poor old back can only take about 3 hours of that each time. Plus the race will soon be on.

Got my new steering system in today. Now I can all I need is tilt tube system and I'll be all set. Also got a new boat gunwhale strap and male and female connectors for my trolling motor. Things are coming in but the weather has me stranded. Raining all day and more for the next few.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Well another weekend of wind and cold, so not much going on with the boat. I did win a prop on ebay, however. I have a stainless steel on now but it has a few nics on it so i'll swap it out with the aluminum for now. I'll likely send my stainless away for repair over the summer. Also I'm taking my outboard in this week for a tune up. I've got a bit of water in my lower unit lube so i'll get the seals replaced. Also a new impeller or total pump as well. I'm also going with a tilt tube for my steering. Now i'll be able to completely raise my motor out of the water. I'm hoping Sunday will be a bit nicer so i can get my windshield and power trim unit taken off the boat. Then I'll need a little more warmer weather to start putting stripper on the boat. I am also thinking of taking it off the trailer so I can start work on replacing my trailer suspension and painting it.

Looking good tallcanadian! I hope you get some nice weather on Sunday to get some work done on the boat. Looks like it'll be raining here all day Sunday- that should make for an interesting day here trying to bring the hull back in and putting the cap on. The weather has a way of turning bad when you want to get something done. I love the video cam!

Thanks Mick. As soon as the weather improves, I'll move that cam in a better place. It's not much but a bit of a different idea.
