Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

Man....This thing is HUGE. Please take this serious. Like many of the Florida guys, I've been through several of them. The worse was San Salvador, Bahamas. Those that know me know I like my beer once in awhile. During something like this, I leave the drinking to others. Somebody needs to keep a clear head.....a very clear head. Enough about me.

To my friends and fellow boaters in what we call "The cone of death".....Take heed to the warnings and stay safe.

Good Luck!

Things just started getting a lot worse in the Boston area within the last hour (2:00 PM) so things must be really bad in the mid-atlantic area.

Surrounded by water on all sides. 70+ gusts. Down to a smart phone and my dumb dog and some beer as the generator and pumps hum
their tune. Couple more feet and I am rowing out of here.

I heard over 300,000 w/o power right now...could rise to the multi-millions when said and done... This is TWC feeding me info, I just about saw Al Roker just about get washed away on Point Pleasant in Jersey... I don't think he wants the early retirement...

It looks like high tide is around 9 pm and its a 4.4. It could have been much much worse if this storm had hit around that time.

Credit cards will be useless. Get cash. Enough for a week.

Get cash. ATM won't work and no one will take credit cards.

I do have some cash stashed .. but realistically down in South Florida after Andrew we had a few local stores ( you know..the stores you always goto for cigs/beer/milk/bread/candy for the kids ) that knew us. They pulled out their carbon(less) Credit card machines. Sure everyone had their own "limit" but they still used them.

We also had to use the Carbon Paper machines when we were doing our Daily Backups for the exchanges at the end of the day.

So to say Credit cards are going to completely useless is kinda on a case by case thing. I know these guys around here will break out there carbon machines for me.

Its Called Credit Card Fraud ..and its been around longer then the instant swipe your card across some digital machine reader LOL. You will be caught.

Surrounded by water on all sides. 70+ gusts. Down to a smart phone and my dumb dog and some beer as the generator and pumps hum

I think this thing is going to come more inland then most projected forecasts are suggesting.

I Live just north of Detroit. Im filling up on supplies.

I also think this thing ( because of its pressure ) is going to swallow up some of the high pressure to the west and keep its path a few hours more west. Not only that but the weak low pressure west of the high pressure will further stave off any push to the North of Sandy ( as they are suggesting ). Its like we are getting sandwiched between a Strong low pressure system (Sandy) heading west .. and a few weaker high pressure systems going east.

Im not a forecaster .. but I think when the two ( 3 ) pressures finally try to merge its gonna be one heck of a ride. Who knows what the Upper Stream is gonna do :) .

Detroit was Blistery windy today (MON) .. Cold ..warmed up a little.. then colder again.

Be Safe and prepared.

Luckily its still October .. and not Jan or Feb 0 deg. when the power goes out.

YD.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

Man I hope it goes well for the crew....that is the only thing that matters; but when something like this happens there is always that little voice way at the back of my head that can't help wondering "was there nobody in a position of authority that reads the weather forecasts?"
Latest is that 16 of the 17 crew got to life rafts....and 5 have been hauled up to a rescue chopper.
Thought the same thing myself ... "You took what boat out where when?" Scary. Best wishes to the crew, families and rescuers.

Hang in everyone on the east coast.

Latest I heard is that there were actually only 16 aboard...not 17.
Fourteen are safe and ashore....two missing.
Went over the side as a group of three trying for a liferaft. Only one made it.

They are reported to have PFD's and Winter survival suits; so they may have a chance.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

They were bringing the boat from Ct to St Pete, FL. Why they did not seek safe harbor I really don't know. Said they were taking 2ft an hour and then lost power. Had 10ft in the boat when they gave up. 40knts and 18 ft waves. 90 miles offshore.

Who knows that the capt was thinking or was ordered to do.

I hope you all stay safe. As far as the Bounty, CNN say 1 missing. Last I heard here, 2 are still missing.

It's getting nasty. Anyone getting snow yet? That would really suck.

A fella I know up here bought a boat a couple weeks back, and the delivery company still hadn't picked it up yet. It's sitting somewhere in Conneticut. No insurance...Yikes. 40 grand..
