Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

I'm a cop. Thats why I find your statement misleading to others. I know many men that can draw from a holster and put two on target far faster than anyone slinging a shot gun over his shoulder could ever hope to get on target.
Family is one thing but looters aren't looking to take your family. If you think your tv is worth your life thats your point of view.
If I had family that was going through this, I would not tell them to arm themselves and get ready to kill over property.
I don't know the laws down south. What are you allowed to do if two guys are hauling off your tv? In Canada, if you shoot someone doing this its called homicide.

Then perhaps you should familiarize yourself with FL law. We're blessed with what's called the "Castle Doctrine". Which means that a mans house is is castle, and he may defend it with deadly force if necessary. (Imagine that.) We also have a "stand your ground" law which means if you are attacked by an assailant and are in fear for your life you may take deadly force.

I don't give a rats *** about my TV or any of that crap. I've always said if someone want's my identity, no need to steal it, hell they can have it! But what I do care about is what used to be called dignity or self respect. I'll be goddamned if I'm gonna sit by and watch some scumbag walk away with that. And if you think looters aren't looking to take your family? Think again.

Put a double tap into the center of mass? Hell that's why I carry a Glock 19 on my hip.

Now for more storm updates ...

Gents: People are going through a disaster up there. Let's try to get along and leave this thread to the storm and put the differences in opinion aside.

Sounds like you live in a lawless and Godless place where civility died long ago.
Thats a sad thing.

So then, are you riding it out in the little building in the last pic?

Nope, I'm high and dry in my flood-resistant house. I built it a few years ago with the deluxe foundation - extra flood vents, giant footer, and tall. The water would have to rise an additional 10' before I start getting nervous.

jdlough, boats are replaceable, keep yourself and family safe. (And I suggest rum as well!!)

Yep, as I was watching this unfold, I was thinking about the Whaler to replace the little boat, and the Sea Hunt CC to replace the big one.
I did not expect to lose a major chunk of the pier. This may affect boat buying plans. :(

At any rate, both boats are still hanging in there, and the water is starting to recede a bit.
We'll see in the morning....

And the plugs are out. I may be dumb, but I'm not stoopid!

sry mate wasnt being insulting just wondering if its better to have a plug in with a auto bilge pump so if it gets knocked off the lift it floats or leave the plug out in case the pump didnt keep up. as you can tell i dont own a boat lift. so im guessing plug in is bad.

Sandy kicked my butt today. Goin to bed and back to it first light. Gusts 90+. Blowin 60 steady. 7.5 ft surge and rising. Lost fences , shingles, gutters, etc.. But still standing and relatvely dry. Be safe.
The word from down in your part of the state is pretty ugly. Stay safe! We've been on generator for about 3 hours now. The wind is shifting around toward the South, and really whipping around. Bad noises from outside.

Just saw that the death toll stands at 4 now, 2 were killed when tree branches fell on their home.

No worries. I took the plugs out so the boats would drain if the pump failed. I didn't want a ton of water inside the boat dragging down the lift. Both boats are strapped securely to the lifts, so they won't get away unless the entire pier collapses.

Also, if either boat got knocked off its lift, it would probably be better if it just sank, rather than bash up against my neighbors piers.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

Heard from Art(aspeck) at around 3:30. The banks of the river behind his church were starting overflow. He had to run. As he was sending an e-mail the "tones" were going off. Guessing emergency situations were arising. I guess the wind was just starting to pick up then. I'm sure he's in the thick of it by now. For those that don't know, he's in PA.

Last thing he said was, "see you on the other side of Sandy!".

There is enough going on in this thread that we don't need to make it some kind of gun debate, or get into politics about blame.

So any one that wants to keep up with either, then start a new thread of your own.

Better yet, they can PM each other so the rest of us don't have to listen to it......

Aspeck is about 40 miles south of me and has a lot of low lying areas near streams in his county. They also have a lot of areas without power now when I last checked. My rain gauge just reached 4" a little while ago. I am on call but so far we still have power and the phone hasn't rang yet. The stream at the bottom of the ridge I live on is over the banks but it overflows into pastures and already harvested fields so no emergencies yet.

Our daughter's best friend lives in MD and many of the large old trees in her yard are down. Fortunately, none have hit a structure. I'm thinking about all of you over there...Take Care.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

Interesting situation. I just got done watching David Letterman do a show to an empty theater with a very short staff. I think it's actually taped sometime in the late afternoon to early evening. This afternoon I was out and about listening to Dan Patrick on the radio and, of course, there were some Sandy references, mainly to the effect that those who made it in to do the show would probably spend the night there.

One thing Dan said that I kept was that he always takes storm predictions and cuts them in half, allowing for over-enthusiastic weather folks playing it up a bit. He said, "Even if this storm is only half what they're predicting, it's going to be pretty bad."

Of course by this time of night, we have a pretty good idea that it's more than half. I hope all is well with our friends on the east coast.
