Ammo prevents looting.
Wish y'all luck. Having lived in FLA for most of my life and weathered a few major storms, I've devised my own 'storm preparedness' checklist. You may not find these on Jim Cantori of the weather channels list but here goes anyway:
1) Toilet paper
2) Ammo beer'n cigarettes
3) Fuel for truck, boat, generator'n gas grille
4) Food & water
The last one I was two hours back in the neighborhood before the police. I stood at the beginning of my block and turned back three different POS pickups that just happened to be driving around. I think the 12 gauge may have changed their minds.
Born and raised in FL all I can tell you just think you are camping for a week with no supplies other than what you have. At least down here we don't have to worry about cold. But I have gone 4 days without power and water. At least we had the boat to live in.
You really prepared to shoot somebody in the face with that shotgun?
Think about it.
its a deterent like a large dog. the people looting are from places unaffected by the storms that move in as soon as the winds subsides while most local people are in shelters and there homes stand empty. they are not looking for a violent clash some are looking to make money legally while some are looking for a quick buck while the police are busy dealing with a hundred other calls.
any trash on the road or at the curb no longer belongs to the home owner so some will assist the trash to the side of the road while no one is about and when you see your alluminum john boat being picked up wave politely as they are helping to clean up the neighbourhood of trash. (only metalic trash they tend to leave every thing else)
lets hope the people up north behave better and help each other out rather than see this as a chance to make a fast buck.
