Beer solves most problems when it comes down to IT :) ..

Speaking of that.. gotta run to the store to stock some warm beer before it hits the coolers ;) ..

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

Last week son Jeff had deliveries in Austin,TX. That was when a weather front was coming up from the Gulf and the entire front was in his path. Today he left for guess where. Yep, he's on his way to New Jersey!! I'm beginning to think his employer looks at the national weather map and wherever there's a bad storm or severe front, that's where they send him. Please keep Jeff in your thoughts as he travels to the Eastern seaboard.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

I heading to Cape Cod first thing this morning to see if I can finish the FWC systems on my boat before the storm hits.

Hopefully, the rain will hold off until tonight, etc. Monday - Tuesday should be interesting around these parts. . . but at least it will be 'tropical' weather.

Ammo prevents looting.

Quick questions:
-Is looting pretty common down there during storms, etc?
-Would your insurance not cover anything lost during this kind of event?
-If no ones leaves the area while the storm is on....is it not just an attempted break-in? (with the homeowners still there?)
-Is this kind of thing something the law can keep under control? or does the neighbourhood dynamic change during the storm?
Thanks

Wish y'all luck. Having lived in FLA for most of my life and weathered a few major storms, I've devised my own 'storm preparedness' checklist. You may not find these on Jim Cantori of the weather channels list but here goes anyway:

1) Toilet paper

2) Ammo beer'n cigarettes

3) Fuel for truck, boat, generator'n gas grille

4) Food & water

.......No. 2 on the list above although not your post 888.

Now might be a good time for the folks in the storms path to book a flight to Auntie Em in Kansas. Surviving in the aftermath of a natural disaster can be pretty miserable if you aren't completely prepared.

If you live in a neighborhood where you suspect looting would take place during a natural disaster, now might be the time to consider a more permanent relocation/move.

For those of you with boats in the water, do you pull them out?

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

i live in a nice area but we do get looting after hurricanes. some people will claim that they are helping with the clean up by picking up scrap metal especially alluminum that has been ripped of building and to honest im fine with that but when you come home to find a bunch of guys with battery saws claiming to be helping by removing your (snow bird) neighbours car port that has very little damadge then i class that as looting. As this was day time when i got home i just phoned the police and with in 10 mins they had 2 cruisers dealing with the problem. the cop said that there people coming from miles away to pick up metal to make a quick dollar and they have seen at least 20 ac units tore up for the copper.
After a hurricane is the only time my wife allows a firearm out of the safe and left on the kitchen counter (still has a trigger lock on it but its loaded).
Im happy to know theres a gun on the counter when im away from home during the clean up im also happy to know that theres 2 big dogs in the yard that look like there mean as hell even if they realy are powder puffs as looters will just find a easier place to steal from.

stay safe guys and dont get paraniod its not a zombie apocalypse yet and try to keep a eye out for the old folk that live near you

Good reason to put Power lines underground. 60+ winds mph will bring down trees and lines. Such wide spread winds will mean weeks of suffering waiting on line repairs. First they have to remove the monster trees. We deal with ice storm outages a lot and after the first few days I am on the ledge LOL

The last one I was two hours back in the neighborhood before the police. I stood at the beginning of my block and turned back three different POS pickups that just happened to be driving around. I think the 12 gauge may have changed their minds.

Born and raised in FL all I can tell you just think you are camping for a week with no supplies other than what you have. At least down here we don't have to worry about cold. But I have gone 4 days without power and water. At least we had the boat to live in.

You really prepared to shoot somebody in the face with that shotgun?

Versus being shot yes.
This thing is going to push a LOT of water. This is going to be a big surge. There will be some of you with no power for maybe 3 -5 days. Make sure you have lots of propane, and water. Credit cards will be useless. Get cash. Enough for a week.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

I pulled the boat around the side of the house inbetween it and another outbuilding so it should work as a windbreak so the cover doesn't get blown off. Other than that, the generator is gassed up, tub will be filled and everything else is inside or tied down.. My house won't get flooding damage, only wind as it's up in the hills, but I'll be on standby to help the town itself which is right on the creek. After Irene last year, the creek cannot take a large rainfall before reaching flood stage.

Re: "SUPER STORM" for the northeast?

You can always put the garden hose in it. 50 gallons at 6-8 pounds a gallon goes a long way in a light boat. I think you are not looking at 100 mph. But its gonna be windy for a long time. Get cash. ATM won't work and no one will take credit cards. Car charger for your cell phone. Full tank of gas. Lots of water. Power is brought back up in the order of population density after the critical outages are up. So if you live in the sticks you will be last.

We have parties down here for a cat 1 but we don't have basements or subways. This one is gonna push a lot of water into the sound and into Manhattan. The North side of this is going to see a big surge.

Hard to believe this storms at 950mb that far North.

its a deterent like a large dog. the people looting are from places unaffected by the storms that move in as soon as the winds subsides while most local people are in shelters and there homes stand empty. they are not looking for a violent clash some are looking to make money legally while some are looking for a quick buck while the police are busy dealing with a hundred other calls.
any trash on the road or at the curb no longer belongs to the home owner so some will assist the trash to the side of the road while no one is about and when you see your alluminum john boat being picked up wave politely as they are helping to clean up the neighbourhood of trash. (only metalic trash they tend to leave every thing else)
lets hope the people up north behave better and help each other out rather than see this as a chance to make a fast buck.

If you want to be sporting a shotgun to protect whatever you are putting yourself at risk of being shot. Maybe its more civilized up north. This only applies to the U.S I suppose.
