Just be prepared guys .. its always a good idea to have a few bottles of water ( and fill the bath tub and any containers with water ).

Food like rice and beans can store a long time without having to take up much space...or break the bank.

Raman noodles are worth something..

But water is going to be your main thinking when a storm hits.

WATER ;) ..

From the looks of things its gonna be Historic. The eye is expected to pass within 20 miles of here. I think were ready, I Got (3) 55 gallon drums full of water, the generator is full of fuel, got an extra 20 gallons of fuel on hand. 10 gallon jugs full of Ice in the freezer, batteries all charged, chainsaw oiled up,fueled up,3 cold cases of beer and plenty of fresh deer meat. CMON SANDY.....BRING IT ON....
P.S If she veers right out to sea, thats ok with me too. :)
Good luck all and be safe....Use common sense and be prepared

fill ya bath tubs nothing worse than having to go get a bucket of water from the ditch to flush your toilets while the power is out especially with kids.

just checked the latest models and it appears as the eye will pass over center of Long Island. Last year Irene passed twenty miles west of me, and now this one is aiming at my door. You must be close to me, I am near Fire Island Inlet. Fair well!

+1 on topping up the freezer with containers full of potable frozen water.

Spare mantels and a globe for the coleman lantern as well.

If you have a gen set, please do not back feed through the system or you could zap a lineman fixing the line.

Ok, this may be an odd question but...what is with the need for stocking up on ammo during a very big but natural storm? Am I missing something on this front? The water, fuel, food, shelter, plywood, beer (of course), generator....I get. However I don't the get the role of ammo in this? Some enlightenment on this?
Thanks!!

15 miles northwest of delmarva. Latest track I seen was to come right over us.

Just looking at this unusual storm track . . all I can think is . . . for years the Hurricane Gods have sliced their shots . . . now they are hooking them. Happens to me too.

Be safe everybody.

So, if you see someone looting . . . you would say "Hey, stop that . . . I've got ammo" ????
In addition to the 30 round clip already full,im sure they would stop.

Was supposed to be in DC for a conference starting Monday but I cancelled all my plans. Amazingly they aren't going to cancel the conference or at least haven't done so yet. Even the airlines hadn't done a travel advisory as of yesterday afternon and so had to politely work with them to get my account credited and not loose the whole fair.

I think I may be in trouble. I HAVE to take the boat off the lake on Sunday. My 1 day window of good weather is now down to 3 hours. Here's hoping! Daughter and family are leaving for Florida early Sunday morning. Have changed their route from Penn thru Virginia, to Detroit thru Ohio and Kentucky. Even then it's sketchy. Praying all goes well.

Ok they finally just cancelled the conference. No refunds of course..just a credit for whenever they reschedule which won't sit well.

I dont get it myself.. why would you stock up on ammo for a Storm ? Be it a hurricane or a blizzard .. why do you need guns ? I like the beer and cigs stock.

Ammo prevents looting.

Looting of what ? Your genset ? .. Your gonna pull your gun on someone trying to rip off your food/water during a hurricane or storm ? I dunno about that. Fill up your gas tank and be ready to drive west to the nearest Hilton with a full blown breakfast buffet :) .

So, if you see someone looting . . . you would say "Hey, stop that . . . I've got ammo" ????

Exactly .. "Hey stop or I will shoot you" ? .. they will only come back ( if they are thugs/gangs and kill you later ). I was taught "If you pull a gun on someone .. shoot them dead". Might want to consider "Hey.. how about a few beers and some smokes around the Campfire/Cook fire instead of shooting at each other. I have plenty to go around right now..". You afraid of them taking your goods and leave you dead. Hell I would say "Dudes..you forgot the power adaptor/connector to the genset .. oh..btw..I have a long 8 guage extention cord in the back room."

In addition to the 30 round clip already full,im sure they would stop.

Of course they will stop .. but only for now. They will come back IF they want your stuff. Your assuming they dont have there own 30 rounders ( or more ) when they come for your "stuff".

In my experience .. peeps come together in these "Natural" events. They share and help each other.

I was down in FL when Andrew hit. We were without power for almost 3 weeks. There were about 5 couples and a few kiddies. We pulled our resources together and had a Great time without AC power and no gen. Battery power and converters ( NO Noise from a gen going ). Barb-e-Q'ed breakfast/dinner.

Now if your in a location that cant group up.. or go solo ..then go west and get into that Hilton that I talked about ^.

Yes its a Possible Freak storm and you should get ready if your in the line of fire. But its NOT the "End of the world get your B.O.B. Lock and load" scenario that some make it to be.

Its just a storm. Be prepared as much as possible for the nature of the storm and have a backup plan.

YD.

PS. A simple 12 volt backup system in your house is not a bad idea. A 12V Battery and 50' of speaker wire connected to your car ( for charging ) will lamp your room enough to work/play. I have a backup battery for my Salt water Reef tank and a bilge pump for a simple circulation of air/water flow. Just saying..
