A 1960's starcraft jet. Bought this boat for 100 bucks, another 100 for the motor. It was in terrible condition though. About 3 coats of house paint was on it and took forever to remove. I put a new coat of paint on, new carpet, new seats, some polishing and here it is. And of course some engine work.

Super sharp and great lines! All for the cost of a few pizzas!!! Welcome!:D

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Picked this up a couple months back. 98' Islander 2001. I guess it's pretty rare from what I've learned, this cuddy style was only available for a few years. Anybody know anything else about it? I plan on cleaning it up, paint, and probably more. Will be fishing on Lake Champlain mostly and hopefully some striper fishing off Cape Cod.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

^^ Thanks

^ Nope it's aluminum..I think they were made from 1998-2000 and the models were a 2000 (OB) and a 2001 (I/O). As far as fishing Champlain I'll probably end up all over the lake, i only know about fishing the Lake by what I've read online. My father has a mooring in Kingsland Bay and at Point Bay Marina so I'm sure I'll be spending some time there. (Not to change the thread, you can pm me if you want)....how is the Lake trout/Salmon fishing? Do you fish up there?

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Nice rig Z, the Islander model has been one of the most popular aluminum cuddy models dating back to the early 70s. My favorite boat made for sure.

I like the styling on yours, vey clean:)

Thanks! I'd like to get a canvas enclosure and sell the bimini, which is kinda jerry rigged on there.

It's powered by a 3.0 Mercruiser and I can get to about 30 mph at WOT. Not bad, i figure its a good motor for fishin.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

So I bought a Starcraft. A 16SSCT, s/n STR11931M74J. Just an open 3 seater with a '61 40hp Johnson. I've been told SS means SuperSport. I've no idea what the CT stands for. I'm assuming by the s/n that it's a '74.
Since this is my first aluminum boat, I do have few questions.
Are there any fasteners I should avoid, be it brass, stainless steel, galvanized, etc? This will be used strictly in fresh waters.
Do I need to use a marine grade plywood to replace the floors? What about the floor cross braces; pressure treated? ash? ... I don't know.
I'll need to do something about the delapidated steering as well... presently running cables 'round dual drums and thru pulleys attached to springs and such. Something with which I've never dealt.
The hull is sound though. Filled it ... no leaks.
Any and all advise is always greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

No leaks is a big plus all right. Steer clear of the pressure treated lumber is it can react with the alum due to mineral content in the preservative. You"ll end up with a pitted hull.

Definately post pics of your redo in your thread. Others will want to see how you did it :)

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

I have a 15ft starcraft jet, not sure of the year, belive late 60's ive had it for a couple years, didnt touch it last year but the past month ive been going strong, currently painting, hope to have it done end of july.i will post some pics once the painting is complete. i got the boat for $100 came with some old paint, about it, was completly stripped when i got it, and someone had to break the windsheild. so hopefully from a bare shell it will come out as a nice new boat, picked up a different trailer boat and motor for $200 the other boat was fiberglass and rotten, sold the motor and all new paint and every bolt and part on the trailer.
heres a link of what it looked like before the painting started

Nice job, haven't seen the rig in a while.

I'm curious, did you enlarge the storage openings in the bow benches or was that factory?
