Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Hi all,
I didn't realize there was such a Starcraft following until I found this site.
I just purchased a 1974 18' SS in basket case form, and found you guys while looking for inspiration. Now the weather just needs to cooperate so I can get started.
I'm still learning to navigate the site, so please forgive me if my pictures are not quite right. I'm working on getting the resizing thing figured out. http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t307/backlash_1/Starcraft Restoration/DSC01062.jpg

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t307/backlash_1/Starcraft Restoration/2010-02-02173208.jpg

It has a good solid hull, and most all of the components are there to reassemble. It has a new transom ready to install, but still needs new decking made.
The galvanized trailer is in excellent condition, but I'm not expecting much from the old 85 HP John-Rude.

I'm rebuilding it as strictly a fishing rig, and have been contemplating going back together with a center console. Still undecided about that.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats and the Starcraft crowd!!!!

Nice hull and I bet that 85 will work out fine.

Take a moment and read the top 3 threads in this section http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32 which concern photos ;)

We look forward to your progress.

A 1981 Envinrude 90HP pushes my 18' SS to 39MPH with 3 adults. Good luck with your project. I'm doing the same boat.

Just checking in

I bought a 1979 18' Starcraft open bow I/O with a 140 mercruiser I will post some photos soon. Needs new paint and floor, the PO removed the old floor so some of the hard work is done. Anybody know what model boat I have?

PS
Not too many of these boats here in California compared to the east.

Welcome to iboats karhawk. It sounds like you have a SuperSport. I have a '79 SS that is 16' and they are some great boats.

You can start a thread in the restoration section if you'd like. We love pictures:)

http://picasaweb.google.com/christophersaul/StarcraftRestoration?feat=directlinkThanks for the welcome, I will post photos soon, it's not too pretty now but my goal is replace the floor and paint by June for a trip to Oregon. My boat looks just like yours except a little longer(and not nearly as nice) and it's an I/O 140HP Merc. This thing must go like crazy with this motor.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

hey guys i have a few questions for you that maybe someone would know the answers to. i was looking for a boat for me, my brother and our buddy to go fishing on this summer and i came across this starcraft boat. the owner says he doesnt know much about it except that its a 15 foot starcraft. does anyone know what kind of boat this is or what style this is. would this boat be able to handle a load of about 650 with the 3 of us and our gear onboard. lastly would this kind of boat be stable enough for me to carpet the front and turn it into a casting deck. or would that be a silly idea. any info would be great. thank you in advance

Checking in with an 89 Starcraft Bluewater 221 Offshore. Bought as a project, and in the midst of the resto now. She's gutted and slowly being put back together. Hope to slay some salmon with her when finished. Long road ahead though! Glad to find a site with guys that have the same OCD I do with boats!

I would advise NOT turning the bow into a casting deck... if you did the underside would certainly need to be reinforced. once you get past that, remember its not a flat surface, it has a curve to it. that will throw most people off balance easily. ive seen it done, and i stand in the bow of mine often, but for short periods of time (beaching the boat).

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

just sold my 05 starcraft fishmaster 176 and picked up a 93 starcraft 221 bluwater offshore. I thought the fishmaster was a nice boat but after the shakeout ride a couple of days ago I can, wait to finish outfitting it and netting the first walleye or king. way cool boat

Add me to the list. 1971 Offshore-V, 18 footer, open bow. Can't wait to get out on Lake St. Clair and run that 140 horsie.

First day I got her, drove back from Saginaw in January.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

my boats a 1961 starcraft Jupiter with a 1964 40 hp Johnson long shaft that i put on it..that some one was going to scrap for the aluminum. the transom was replaced on it and man what a hack job the person did on it !!! for some dam stupid reason they cut the height to 18 inches so i put a new transom and floor in it plus some seats making it into a fishing boat
i help with two things on it
1. has anyone seen this kind of damage to a keel and what would be the best way to try and repair it ??

2. i would like to repaint the bottom of the boat and it is heavily oxidized .
i would like to know if i should strip the bottom to bare metal
or if i could get away with sanding it down to the primer and spraying it with zinc chromate or self etching primer
and yeah i agree it was in saltwater for sure

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

I'll be going out next week to have a look at a Starcraft 16 SSCT with a '63 Johnson 40 on it. Would/could someone please let me know what kind of boat this is? So far all I know is that it is aluminum, has throttle and steering controls, motor needs a tune-up, and the windsheild is missing. Oh yea, and it comes with a set of oars.... which could mean it's just a big rowboat.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I've got a 16' Starcraft SS, click the link in my signature to see some photos of it in my restoration thread. I'm not sure what the CT means but SS is SuperSport. They are really nice boats, good luck to ya!

Hmmm... hope this one's in as good a shape as yours. It's also a grand, but no trailer. I'll let you know how things go. I just may be a Starcraft owner by week's end.

A 1960's starcraft jet. Bought this boat for 100 bucks, another 100 for the motor. It was in terrible condition though. About 3 coats of house paint was on it and took forever to remove. I put a new coat of paint on, new carpet, new seats, some polishing and here it is. And of course some engine work.
