Re: Starcraft on clist!

http://kalamazoo.craigslist.org/boa/2978324920.html Mystery Starcraft $1,500, no pics, strange add.

Hmmm, a rare bird that star-craft......

Somebody please hold my checkbook & wallet, and keep them away from me, else I might do something rash. That ad has some sort of subliminal trickery, I am drawn to it like a moth to a flame:eek: Great, now I do have that rash...

I love the bare bones ads w/ minimal real info @ the boats/motors & no pix, esp when they say they have no time to take any pix &/or tell you not to waste their time:facepalm:.... Only bested by all the ads that claim a cheap fix (<$100) will make a $150 boat/motor a $1500 deal of a lifetime....

jb it's only what.. a 12-14 hour drive to look at it. It might be FG or it might be a beautiful 21' SS deal of a lifetime.

Yeah, so much info to digest & make a decision yes or no..... It's such a great boat they don't even use it?

Doesn't know anything about 'them' but it works great, paid for it to be stored for at least a year but can't answer any questions about it.

Is it a 12' SC or 21'+ SS?

Whatever.......

Still wth(??) with no time for pix, he doesn't mind having to respond to a bunch of emails???

Re: Starcraft on clist!

Hey Guys I've been lookin for a Starcraft lately and I prefer the open bow so the SS would probably fit best for me but I also found a closed bow which is the first link that is posted on here. For the closed bow he had it up for 1,100 early last week and suddenly it has increased to 1500 so I'm kinda torn between these two.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/boa/2948648396.html

And this next one has been up for a couple weeks and decreased in price about 500. I'm just wonderin how much you all think i'd be able to talk these guys down.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/boa/2977640302.html

I'm lookin for something that'll be good to go right away and both of these boats look that way. Opinions please.

Mine listed at 2K. And I got him down to 1600.00. I think it's all timing. After the fishing opener (May 12) the fetching price drops significantly and you'll be able to talk them down further than you can now. I woul offer $500 below and be willing to work to 1600 or 1700.00. Then the values go backup a bit the week or two before the fourth of July. Then, of course fall off the rest of the summer.

One piece of advice I will tell you to stay true to NO MATTER WHAT is to get what you know you want OR you'll be searching CL the rest ofthe summer wishing! Trust me! :)

That Johnson is an electric shift which you may want to avoid.

It's a perfectly fine system when working but there are solenoids in the lower unit that if they die, are NLA parts. The switches in the control box are also NLA. If I had one I'd run it but I wouldn't pay as much for one as a mechanical shift. For larger Johnson/Evinrudes, you want 1973 or newer with some additional improvements coming along in '78. My '81 has a primer circuit as opposed to a choke and it makes cold starts amazingly easier. Not sure when they added that.

okay so it's something I'd wanna shy away from then probably because it sounds like it could cost quite a bit to get fixed if it didn't work.

19' SC in Alabama for $1000. Seems to be a newer model open bow with what looks like a MerCruiser I/O. http://shoals.craigslist.org/boa/2979573781.html

An old 14' utility, no trailer/motor. $250 in Southern IL. http://carbondale.craigslist.org/boa/2979398866.html

A Motown 1979 V5 Holiday. Looks nice and extra gear for $3500 firm. http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/boa/2979394642.html

Finally in Vermont a 14' closed bow/trailer/25 horse 'Rude, decent looking. Ad says $1500, title says $750. http://burlington.craigslist.org/boa/2979068602.html

Re: Starcraft on clist!

I have to add this one. A 1967 18' Starchief idea boat. Look at the ad to see what I mean. If you're a purist don't look. $1500 in GA. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/boa/2955331074.html

When did Jas start a Starchief conversion:facepalm:

Oh, what could have been. I wonder what shape it was in before going topless:eek:? Got a cuddy, want it not to be? Well there you go.... You have to work with what you've got I guess.... Seems to have lost the desire to finish, or the Admiral ran out of patience:D

Hey there Lapline.

I went to look at the $1100-$1500 dollar boat.

It is a Nassau model. Barely a scratch on it.
It is in about 95% original condition.
Trailer is pretty rough, but definitely functional and solid.
It is much smaller than the open bow you have linked.

The motor is a 1971 Johnson 50 hp, hydro-Electric shift.
Is a hard starter, even according to the seller. He had a hard time starting it last week.
I really didn't care, as I was going to dump the motor anyway.

Seller is hard to deal with, hard to get ahold of, changes plans on you like he didn't even remember he had made plans to show the boat.
Says he has had lots of calls and texts, but I was the only person to come and look at it, he's been running the ad for 2.5 weeks.
Told me it had no ID or hp rating plate, But there it was, in plain view from 20' away.

One minute he says he won't sell it if he can't get $1100.
5 minutes later he hints at letting it go cheaper.
Then he asks what he should sell it for.
Then he says he doesn't need to sell it.
Then he says he needs to sell it to buy a business.

It is a cute little boat, suitable for 2-3 people to cruise around in.

I should have bought it, but want something just a bit larger.
Here is the thread I started on the boat.

The open bow in the other ad is your typical 16' Super Sport model.
Decent engine with power tilt and trim.
Lots of space compared to the Nassau.
Deeper, wider, more stable too.
Seats look like they did a really cheap fold n staple recover job.
