I was going to use heat shrink to connect the trailer lights to the harness.

It's just me being an anal Dumb Old Okie but I think using Shrink tubing is a good, cheap, insurance policy. But... I also solder all my connections wrap em in tape and THEN shrink tube em. Told you I was anal!!!!

I was planning in shrink tubing or the safety aspect.

Update: today I'm putting coat-it in and hopefully starting epoxy. I still have to cut the floor boards to size. I'm bring the floor all the way back to the transom so I will have a spot to set the battery and has tank

Sorrys its been so long. Ive been busy this summer. Before I left for vacation, I was cutting the plywood for the floorboards. When I return in 2 weeks, I will finish cutting them and then epoxy them.

Have a good day!

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Hey guys, sorry its been so long. Ive been busy! So, I am in the process of ordering parts. I am going to use heat shrink tubing for the trailer, maybe the electrical in the boat as well. For the trailer, I need to replace the springs and the bearings. The rollers look faded, but they all still roll fine so that may be a later project. The engine I am in the process of removing the fly wheel to test the breakers under it. On the boat, I am still cutting the floorboards and the side panels. I need to buy a piece of wood for the dash along with some more West System Epoxy. I found a good deal on it the first time so I am looking for another one!

I am still looking for the plastic decals that go on the transom, as well as a bow cap.

Finally, I am planning on having a one gas tank, one battery system for now. I will upgrade to two of each in the future. When I do that upgrade, I will also be placing a board that "hangs" from the splash well to conceal the compartment. I would mount a battery changer on that.

I think thats it for know! If anyone has ideas or where I can get parts, feel free to contact me!

Have a good evening!

Ive been reading up on the flotation foam. If I use the pink insulataion foam from HD or Lowes, what will happen when it meets water?

You might get lucky & find someone w/ a good plastic Starcraft logo that is remaking them in a mold pulled from their original. The last pair I saw were on ebay, they weren't inexpensive & 1 of the 2 had a letter that wasn't oriented correctly (if memory serves it was the T at the end of Starcraft, leaning backwards toward the F. The original they'd used as a mold probably warpped/twisted w/ age & they used it to make a mold anyway.

NorthBeach had someone digitize the logo and waterjet them out of aluminum or stainless (maybe both), but I don't know if they will still cut a set. They looked GREAT, but again were not inexpensive.

Someone in the last 2 days posted that they were going to have some one fab a set for them in aluminum too, using the 1 good copy they had. I can't remember off hand who that was, sorry. They might get a 2nd set for you. I'll try to come up w/ the thread....

You need a new bow end cap? Like 1 of the ones in the top row:

Is it cracked, missing a chunk or missing all together? Just like the transom end caps that MichaelP makes, if you have something for them to reference (including taking the boat to them to reference the bow directly) a fab/welding shop may be able to repair it or fab one out of sheet stock, fairly easily w/ the right tools.

Ebay will probably be your best bet, to 'find' one in good shape.

The pink/blue sheet insulation shouldn't be affected by water, even getting wet on a regular basis, unless it is left submerged for a very long time thru several freeze/thaw cycles. If you keep the boat covered & bow high when not in use, pull the drain plug after every use & maintain the deck & it's covering, you should have no worries or concerns about the condition of the sheet foam for a very, very long time. Bond-o or Bob_VT just posted on another thread in the last 2 days that they pulled a buried piece of sheet foam out of the ground after a very long time and it looked the exact same as it did the day it went in the ground. No water intrusion.

The benefits of NOT letting the boat fill & sit w/ water in it are numerous, keeping the foam dry and able to do it's job is only 1.

Sorry I've been hammered at work & can't come up w/ either thread from the last 2 days. If I find them, I'll post a link/quote here....

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

JB Thank you for the info! The Transom Caps I have but one of them is broken, I am surprised it stayed on during the trip to get the boat. I am missing the bow cap as a whole. The starcraft logo I will continue to look on ebay, if anyone sees anything, PLEASE let me know!! :)

Regarding the insulation, I will continue to look at the local stores! Thank you for that info!

I plan on ordering parts today (I feel like I say this alot).

Have a good day!

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Got some work done today! Yesterday I bought some new jig saw blades, heat shrink tubing and a heat gun. I installed the trailer wiring and then moved on to cutting the wood. I cut the bow floor board, and began working on the transom piece. I got 1 board done, which is half of the transom piece, with a very snug fit.

Have a good evening.

Don't have a firm date for my Jet, but early-mid 60's so not sure yours would be the same.

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

If you haven't already done the new wiring to the trailer lights... I used a wire nut (plastic cap with threaded insert). I filled the wire nut with silicone and then screwed the cap on the wiring connection sealing off the connection from water...or so I hope. There are some potting silicones...I guess they are better conductors than standard silicone. I wasn't that smart, but it seems to work fine.

It was just a random result from a google search for: Starcraft bow cap. You can try to PM chrisp929, turned out it was from an iboats thread:
Bought all these parts and some others along with my 68' jet star i got from a LONG time Starcraft dealer in upstate NY. Would like to get some help from you guys. Would like to know what i have.

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

So got some work done this weekend, I bought the board for the dash, Some more 5200 Sealant for the keel, some rivets, and then began cutting more wood. I have on side of the floorboard complete(with the exception of the spot where the bilge pump will go) and the bow piece complete. Regarding the bilge pump(s), I am thinking that I want to go with 2 bilge pumps, one on each side of the rear transom support. The hole that goes through the rear support to allow water to flow between each side of the bilge is always clogging with small debris. Would I then have to have 2 switches, one for each pump? Just a thought, nothing is set in stone yet.

Ive started doing research on making my own seats, and I think I want to paint the boat trailer with rustoleum to help protect it against the environment. Should I paint it silver, or make it look more like a custom trailer for the boat by going with red or white?
