Went to start the engine last night. After some checking wiring, I turned the key...It cranked! But wouldnt start...Seems like there was air coming out of the top spark plug hole.

Purchasing wood and the rivet tool and rivets this evening. Hopefully, between today and tomorrow, I will be able to get the floor boards cut and leaks fixed. There is a leak that is not leaking through a rivet hole, but a shallow part in the aluminum. Will gluvit cover it or should I drill a hole and rivet it?

I don't really get what you're referring to. Got a pix?

There turned out to be a small hole, so I made it a little bigger and put a rivet in. FInishing up filling holes now!

All those holes filled up! I'm debating if I should take the rusted screws out that someone used to fill previous holes and put rivets there. Looks a little nicer and its safer. Any ideas?

I also purchased a EverStart 25 MS Battery. Hooked it up to the engine, and...It cranked fast but would catch and start. More diagnosing tomorrow...

West System and Coat-It will be in in a couple of days so more progress shortly!

Have a Good Evening!

If you have rusty screws anywhere on the boat, replace with stainless. Steel and aluminum together only lead to corrosion.

It depends, BB. If they're in the hull to patch a hole - closed head rivets and 5200. If they are used for attaching, like transom bolts or other hardware, then screws and 5200.

Any through wood should always be stainless. Using non-SS through wood leads eventually to rust and then leaks, even with 5200 smeared all over.

They are to patch a hole, so I will use closed head rivets with 5200!

Holes and old screw holes filled! Waiting for a couple engine parts to come in and will be try starting it for the 4th time. I ordered Coat-it and have already received the West System Epoxy so I will be epoxying boards tomorrow. Gotta purchase the plywood first.

For the epoxy, do I put screw holes in first then epoxy or epoxy the boards the put screw in and coat the screws with epoxy?

I think thats it for now! Have a good evening!

It's easier to just epoxy and then drill your holes after. When you put the screws in, goo them up a little with 5200 first, you'll be good to go. You're keeping at it!

Alright, Thank you! Il be test fitting and epoxying tomorrow. I got a Quart of West System which should do at least one coat, if not too. Im going to try to put the leftover epoxy on the floor and side boards.

Should I coat the area where the floorboards meet in epoxy/5200 or just leave it?

Question: Do I need to use Heat Shrink Tubing for my trailer wiring?

Many do and it's good stuff, but I have always soldered my splices and used electrical tape. Never had a problem and my lights rarely give me trouble.

Are you splicing into the wiring?

GA: I bought a kit but to connect the wires to the lights, I must connect them.

Not sure just where you mean--can we get a picture of the area?

I dont have a picture of it currently. For the floorboards, the PO had cut a 4x8 Sheet of Plywood in half. I planned on doing the same so where they would meet in the middle of the boat, should I put epoxy/5200 to seal the gap? All the wood will be sealed

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Got some work done today. I was preparing to cut the floorboards and removing the old staples from the dash when my hate for the old dash grew. I ended up taking the dash out...I will be replacing it with another piece after epoxy and staining it. Advantage about taking the dash out is I had to take out side pieces where the step pads and other hardware sat which allowed me to get some of the dents out.

Have a good evening!

BB - Since you are running a new trailer wiring harness, probably no need to use shrink tubing.
