Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

I just need to find one.

What if I waterproof the wood? I will be doing it to the transom wood so I can do it to the floor boards as well.

Yep! Just be sure to use regular wood and not pressure treated wood.

Like I mentioned above, since you don't have much building experience the wood might be the best build for you... but don't cheap out on the waterproofer if you choose this type of build. Use multiple coats of epoxy resin, at least 3 but 4 will be best. Cut all of the wood to fit and then epoxy coat it. This method should last you many years.

Alright! Do you recommend any brand of epoxy resin?

Ok, the 635 with the medium or fast hardener will do.

If you use the fast, you have to work a little faster but there will be less waiting time between coats.

Do you have an estimate in the size I will need? I'm not sure how many coats and I plan on the new floor looking just like the old one. I would really appreciate that!

Also, the garage is really heated. I have a small space heater but that would probably have to run an hour or two to get the garage to start warming up. Hopefully warmer weather will roll in and I should be able to get out if need e. What are the ideal temperatures for working with this epoxy?

I would suggest getting a gallon, this will let you do all of your wood with multiple coats.

If your garage isn't really heated you should use the space heater and the fast hardener instead of the medium. The fast hardener is good down to 45*F, but you should still keep the garage as warm as possible to reduce the set and cure times. The space heater will also cut down on the moisture in the air which will also help with setting nad curing.

Alright! Thanks for the information! I will order that when I figure out what "ground to powerhead" means. Trying to get engine wiring sorted out!

I agree 1 gallon of the epoxy resin should do you. Thats about what I used to do the floors on my jet star.

Alright, thank you!

I'm looking into batteries now. Will a dual purpose battery work? I plan on upgrading later but for now I would like one to power the engine, stereo, and lights.

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Hey guys, I know it's been awhile! I'm going to be putting together a big to-do list later today to keep a "timeline". So far I've been working on the engine and got the windshield off. Regarding the engine- I've begun the rewire process. Realized I ordered te wrong size so so I'm calling west Marine tonight. My goal this weekend is to take the splash well off an get that transom wood out! Updates will come later tonight! Is it to ambitious of me to try to get the boat up and running by July 30?

Two and a half months - Sure. Some have done it in less time. It all depends on how much you're doing and cash flow. Just work steady on her and before long you get the :D.
