Bad news indeed. The good news is it isn't twenty years ago. Much hope now compared to then. Keep the Faith and seek out specialists. Learning and Research (University) hospitals have the best resources IMHO. :)

It is an emotional roller coaster when it comes to this. My wife has had 4 different operations, but none was cancerous. Early detection is the key to survival. Your request is our pleasure,,,,,,,,,Praying for the best....

My heart goes out to you and Donna. Tough times ahead for her no doubt. Strength and support from you are vital right now, and I'm sure she has that.

Be sure to get second or even third opinion on how best to handle this. And if at all possible, make sure you take her to the best cancer hospital in your area. Even if you have to travel, it'll be worth it in the end. M.D. Anderson in Houston, Tx has the best cancer hospital in the country.

My very best wishes for a successful treament plan, and my nightly prayers will remain for you both until you come back to us with good news.

Re: Say a prayer for my wife......

My wife faced this same dilemma 12 years ago. She opted for the double radical with reconstruction at UAB Medical center in Birmingham. A terrible ordeal but still clean today. She is a nursepractioner who knew what was involved. She regularly wears a swimsuit without fear due to the skill of the plastic surgeon involved. Ironically he was named Dr. Fix, a wonderful man. Sadly several acquaintances who had lumpectomies after my wifes surgery are long gone. Under the circumstances (14 hours in surgery) UAB was a Godsend and the people there very kind miracleworkers. Talk about rethinking your priorities and realigning accordingly........Good Luck

Re: Say a prayer for my wife......

I got her home from the hospital yesterday. She decided to have a mastectomy of the one breast and reconstruction. The cancer has NOT spread to her lymph nodes which is the best news we could have hoped for. It looks like though, she is going to have some problems with healing process because of breast reduction surgery 10 years ago. Something to do with the scar tissue and the way blood vessles regenerated. BUT this is a minor thing and can be fixed.

I have a full compliment of her sisters at the house at the present time tending to her every need. The main order of business today is a bath and getting her head washed.....she's wanted that since the day of the surgery.

I've got her lined up with the gal that does her hair so she can go up there let her wash it and I've picked up one of those special chairs to put in the bath tub for the bath. She has two drains in her that cant get wet so a good sponge bath with the order.

I want to thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this time. Its greatly appreciated and truly means alot to me.

Thank you all,

Ed

Re: Say a prayer for my wife......UPDATE

Just a note to let everyone know that Donna got the pathology report from the tissue that was removed and the cancer has not spread to any other areas. Its not in the lymph nodes either (i think i've mentioned that). Dont know yet if this will get her out of chemo or not. Also, she went to the plastic surgeon today and it looks like the skin tissue that was dieing is coming back. The doctor said that it look much better today and he was encouraged.

She didnt ask for any pain medicine during the night last night, she got up this morning had her sister put her war paint on her face, went the hair gal, got her hair done and they struck a trott to Jackson for all the appointments.

Looks like she's coming on back! !
