I have a question for anyone but picking your guys brains. So ya know I'm using EEEEEPpppooxxxy. I have alot of deck pcs. Typically you lap/tab the glass on these seams a couple of times creating a hump to some degree. Whats your opinion on it if I use my poxy with glass in my pb would I still need to dbl tab those areas?
Woodonglass , zool , sphelps , ondarvr
Got some more fitting out over the deck but rain is off and on. Might be a hoagie, clean the house, watch the Eagles day. tank deck cardboard 10-8.jpg

Opinions welcomed.
Tx!

No pro here but adding the 1/4' chop to the pb would make the filler stronger .. I guess depending on the location of the joint as far as how much movement might happen would be my deciding factor on the double layup .. Better chance of not cracking with the epoxy I suppose ... I guess your trying to avoid joint humps on the deck ...
I know that's not much help but it's all I got ..
Nice job on the tank coffin Kc !!

sphelps Thanks for the feedback, every little bit helps! On the edge of the application humpdedump. I was going to scab in the rest w/leftover wood but it made nauseous considering the wood butcher I am. A solid run preferred so back to HDblows. wood topper deck 10-8 a.jpg

The idea is to grind down the seams to a taper, and fill in with cloth to level, then fair it smooth, so u dont get humps. BUT, given the amount of seams you have, I guess you could pick ur battles and cloth areas with the most foot traffic, and and try the hairy filler in the other areas...it my still stress crack form the the stress of just being a boat ;)....

zool I get the taper idea but do you mean fill it with pb {hairy pb** smoothe, sand then glass without tabbing the seams. I think I'm getting caught up in terminology, I'm a mook ya know.:)
Yea the stress on a boat can be tremendous.

I mean tab the foot traffic and structural seams with tapered layers of 1700 to about flush, then fair with a creamy mix....the less traveled areas just grind it down some, fill with hairy pb, then fair with the creamy mix....worst case yo u have to go back in a year or tow and repair some stress cracks.....

Freakin rain all day here. Looks like the weatherman got it right this time. Temps are good. Wanted to see how the old splashwell was going to fit in. It's in front of the work table. Small but it is pouring out. I have to peel back some of the tarp to manipulate it in.
Once I get it in then I'm going to decide to use it, modify it or just do the entire splashwell from scratch.

ahmincha Ya the beauty is in the eye of the beholder...yes I agree. So came home from work this morning, no rain...yes!! Says I. Humped the splashwell in to see the rough fit. I knew it was going to be off cause I manipulated the stringers. Still in all I liked it. Will work it and use it. Also heat lamped off the wood over the tank and going to sand it, wet it out both sides, clean up and crash. Gettin dar leetle bye leetle. Really have to take advantage of this weather
Get that stuff in and hump on the moto. Not sure I'll get to that pointby falls end but really would like to be there. Then I can wire dings out. Need materials etc.

So the beat went on and yes I'm done fer today.
Took out the tank wood, sanded it, cleaned it, beveled the edges/rounded off, wiped it then acetoned both sides. BC ply not a single VOID says I. And yes they certainly do occur just not today. Maybe someone slipped me aruca.

Slager hey thanks for the feed back.
So I've been contemplating and dinking about using the original splashwell since I placed it. I worked the stringers etc to make it fit. Just don't like the fit and look. Pulled it out and decided to run the deck level to the transom. Then will work the rest out. splashwell A.jpg
It'll set me back some time etc. but the old well just didn't feel like that's where I wanted to be. Ha ha oh well.

Looks like you can just fabricate a deeper well, to handle more "splash"...and make an access cover to get down to the pumps....looking good, but who's tom?

tom?
My OCD won't let me spell words with double letters..
Yap tomorrow.
So ya think a flush deck and self bailing isn't the way to go go ?
Of course with blocker spread across the galley floor to under deck deck? Gots to hit the sack.

I kinda liked the way the old splash looks ... But then again i'm not standing in it getting to see from your vantage points .. I'm sure what ever you come up with will be great and work for ya ..

Going out, already have to make determinations. My big considerations are making sure a can get a good hatch to acess baterries etc. Doing some preliminary fitting and cutting. See what happens. Also tired of humping that splashwell in and out of boat says I!
Does look like I can get a hatch @ 36 x 14" so thats cool.

splash well 3 10 14.jpg splash well 4 10 14.jpg splash well with teak 1.jpg splash well teak 2.jpg Ok....... So I did decide to use the old splashwell with some mods. It had a lip on it that let you put the ply under and in the middle a lip to set the deck floor on. Grinded it out. So I got rid of all that stuff with Mr Grinder. Did a template and cut to fit some ply.
I like the end result.
Ended up like I wanted to using the original teak board that came with the boat that is the splash well gaurdian. Oddy enough it also fits in the cuddy to make the bedding area complete.
I would like any ideas guys mat have cause I want to make a swing door in the teak.
Decent day says I!

Hmmmm like a U shaped hinged door or a full door ? Might get away with little extra support with a U shape ... idk
Full door would need some sort of post ....

sphelps needs to be a U shape. Do not want a post. I know waht you mean. The w/a U I believe I would need a bottom support to some degree. What if I come up off the bottom like 4-5 " think I would still need xtra strength? I would like the whole unit to be removable. Definitely times I won't need it. Gots to put whats left of my brain to it.
Thanks Sam.
So we have a wet real moist day here. A drizzle like mist. I left a pc. of wood unfinished outside last night and boy it just blistered righ up on the raw cut. So I lumped right in on the pcs. in the boat I had fitted out and ran resin on all the rough edges. Also spen time lifting and fitting the splashwell pc. to finally get it leveled. The puzzle continues. Need to add support for the new hatch so there is NO flex.
Time to clean up and make some Shephards Pie.;
