Arch - I heard the offender arrived, but with the delivery guy's slick vinyl gloves, it slipped out of his hands and fell off the dock. No worry, duct tape is on the way. It's a box of these doo-dads and that's why our pics won't stick;

Seriously, it's almost fixed I've been told. 🤞

20200508_150203.jpg Looks like the old Uploader is back to uploading in stead of offending....... Here are the side covers and valve covers ready for paint!

Here are a few pics from my non-critical items this weekend.

I cut out the insulation for the dog house. I have a plan to attach it using some hard points glued onto the doghouse.....probably going to be easier to post pictures on that possibly brilliant plan than try to explain it at this point lol. The insulation is Rockwool semi ridgid insulation board. Excellent noise and heat resistant, plus it basically repels water.

Next is the frame I made for the glove box. It will, one trim out the fiberglass insert I am making for the box its self, and secondly provide the hinge point. The hardware for this, the insulation and securing the back seat showed up today from Mcmaster Carr. Basic mad scientist kit.........:bounce:

I am planning on adding some wood accents to the door that match the seat bases. Here is the frame mocked up on the dash.

Click image for larger version Name:	20200508_193102 (002).jpg Views:	1 Size:	438.2 KB ID:	10863954 I bought some nice ball catches with the hardware I picked up. I think I will see how that works vs a latch with key.....I got to thinking, what the hell am I really going to need to lock up in there? And what are the odds of me finding the key :D I worked on cleaning up the shop and putting it back in Meck-A-Necking mode, as Wood says, tonight. Hopefully I will be back to the engine assembly this weekend!

"I see a lot of things that need to be corrected on this project, punch list might be really long....... Gee I wish I had some of the rockwool....." "how many sheets do you want......" "project looks great, no need for a punch list" :D

I actually had a hard time finding the 1", but Zoro had it at a fairly reasonable cost. Especially when you compare it to the stuff for " automotive use". I do wish it had the foil on both sides, but I think this will work.

GA I actually lost my damn truck keys on Tuesday......in the truck...I knew they were in it because it would start, just couldn't find them! I finally saw where they slid down between the seat and console lol! I kind of almost miss having an ignition key sometimes......

Hopefully this time tomorrow I will have the block. That would make for a productive weekend!

I managed to assemble the glove box hing tonight without out screwing anything up...which was kind of surprising. First I had the mock up the door and figure out how to measure the center lines of the hing pivot points then transfer that to the frame. Formica samples for shims (have an entire box, I use them all the time) along with a few small claps and masking tape. Then I managed to measure the center-lines and transfer them by scribing with calipers. Lastly was actaully drilling the holes in exactly the right place.....center punch, 1/16" drill bit, along with 3 others till I got to 3/16". To my shock when I put it together it fits perfect! Closes nicely, doesn't bind and it folds down and rest on the lower angle when its about 110 degrees open.

Here is a side view with it full open.

I wish I had a side view of the door extrusion. It has a C shaped channel on the back that has a 3/16" diameter (actually slightly over). I used barrel nuts, with 3/16" O.D's, to serve as the pivot pins. I cut a piece of threaded rod to go between them, screwed on one barrel nut, slid it through the assembly and screwed on the other barrel nut. Worked great, the rod captures the nuts. I am thinking a drop of locktite on each end for final assembly. Otherwise I can see them vibrating loose over time.

I have a bad habit of putting the keys on top of the console if I'm not driving right off. I'm always digging the things out from between the seat and console, so I cut up a coat hanger hook and keep it in the console.

Arch, I had no idea your keys were missing. Honest Injun!

Nice job on the glove box. Is that the original lid?

I've forgotten what that Hunk-O-Iron with the 6 holes is for. :D

Thanks GA that is the original door, wanted to keep it since it was aluminum and not some cruddy plastic thing.

It is quite the chunk of iron. The guy was looking at the tags on the cranks today looking for mine, I just said, "its the long one", lol.

"The Long One" would look nice on the transom.

Was the crank bent from the last catastrophe? No longer offending? Is paint drying on the block?

GA, I was informed that the offending component is now reformed by the "councilors". I have a feeling they work for....."an organization" lol! To be honest I forgot to ask about the details because
  1. I was so excited about getting the block I was about to pee in my pants.
  2. There were thunderstorms heading our way  and machined cast iron and water don't get along!

I didn't get a lot done tonight. Gave the block a careful look over. Installed the cam and freeze plugs, NOS Mercruiser, because why not, its already a money pit lol! Carefully inspected and blew out all the oil passages. Check the ring gap, all met factory specs. And finally installed the main bearings. I decided to wait to plastiguage the mains till tomorrow when I am fresh. It has been a long week and I need a good nights rest! The last thing I need to to do is make a dumb mistake after all this!

Here is a pic of the reformer:

And tomorrows project.....looks kind of evil doesn't it

Upside down it looks like a Space Force Star Cruiser. The old Spaceys call it The Long One.

I counted the mains and rod journals. You got all of them back, too bad we won't see it again once the pan goes on.

Since you're all giddy from getting things back, just a reminder if you haven't - Clean and flush the oilways in the Reformed Long One. I don't want to see it again until the 5000 hour rebuild.

Thanks froggy. I thought of that the first time I worked on the crank, didn't have one small enough lol! So I went to Dicks and they had them on clearance for 90% off so I bought a couple of every cal and extras for the size guns I have. I think the one that fits is for a 25 cal.

OCD kicked in......I made a list of all the hardware for the tin, valve covers, timing, oil pan etc. Hit Ace first thing and cleared out the hardware section lol. But that sounded easier than trying to get 50 years of rust and oil off of the hardware. I need to get a blast cabinet one of these days.....
