So Arch, Just wondering, is your machinist boring the new block .060 over too? How does this block do in general being bored that far? Boring a 350 block that far can be a little dicey. Maybe yours is perfectly happy bored that big.

Getting excited again! Won't be long now. The only good thing about this whole virus thing is that you're not losing boating time because your ramps are closed anyway. Well that and the traffic. I'm flat out loving the traffic! Or lack of! It took me 36 minutes to get to work yesterday. It's like it was 20 years ago.

Cheers........................Todd

Sea Horse, they actually bore these blocks even bigger in racing applications so they can use a 327 piston in them. And to answer your question it is .60. These blocks are very forgiving about everything except the front two head bolts. Everything I have read and on the advice if the guy who builds these 6's for a living (Tom), is to only torque them to 80 Ft- LBS, not 90 like the rest. Apparently you can crack the block if you crank the front two down. And what I am doing with this is really a pretty mild application. I will be happy with 190 or 200 hp. Tom routinely builds these that make 320 hp on carb and 500+ on turbos. We are going to be doing the cocktail cruise at 2500 rpm lol, so not really concerned about the bore size.

I usually really don't get on the lake till June, and take my vacation till July. So the delay really hasn't put a dent in my routine yet. I think the ramps are supposed to open back up on the 15th from what I read on the Corp website last week. And there are some private ramps that I can use if I want, but they are not very convenient location wise. Hopefully things calm down a bit in the next few weeks.

It is actually a busy weekend here at the lake, kind of wish everyone was still at home except me lol! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

But what about the cran.............ER................offensive component, Arch? Is the shop going to have it ready when the block shows up?

I got so sort of vague answer yesterday that lead me to believe that is the case. I will have to drop the block off and have the cam bearings installed.....more waiting but I have a plumbing issue to resolve at the lake now.....never a dull moment. Hopefully I can deal with that this weekend and get back to the engine next week sometime. It would be a nice morning to be out there right now!

Making progress of sorts, but not as fast as I would like of course. The machine shop called today and said the offending part was ready, turned 10-10 under. Unfortunately who every worked on it was out this afternoon, but hopefully I can talk with them when I pick it up. I'll be interested to hear what they found, if anything.

The block was supposed to ship on Monday, but didn't get picked up till Wednesday due to virus related issues. Hopefully it will be here Monday and I can drop it off to have a final wash and cam bearings installed next week.

Also ordered bearings tonight since I found out what they turned the crank to. I think this weekend I will work on the odds and ends list not related to the engine.

Hatched a plan to get something done on the engine today.....:D A lot of non-assembly things started opening back up here a week ago. So I gathered up my PPE, ventured out to pick up the valve cover and the paint for the engine. I figured that I could at least get the tin and hardware painted up, then do the block later. I picked up the valve and side covers, they turned out great!

I tried to up-load a pic but am having an issue....maybe a site issue, I'll try again later.

Headed off to the paint store.......on the front door was a sign that said, " due to the virus.......the lobby is closed and we are not taking cash and carry orders..........":closed_2:

Hmm so much for that plan! I guess I at least got the covers, maybe I can order some paint from Eastwood or Summit.

Arch - Our photo uploader is trying to be more offensive than your offensive component. We win!

Got a Big Box store around? Ours are considered essential and are limiting the numbers of customers inside at one time. Heck, I can get a tattoo down here.

There seems to be a lot of offensive things going on around here.....

GA I have some rattle can, but I was really wanting to spray automotive urethane on the engine. I have already shot all of the drive, gimble, and engine mount brackets etc. with it and would like it to match. Yes it is my OCD kicking in but I will sleep better at night knowing the engine that no one will see has a great paint job :D. Probably also the same reason I ordered the reproduction valve cover stickers.

I did make some progress. I dug around in the hangar and found a 3/4" aluminum angle with a .120 wall thickness. I managed to build a rectangular frame out of it to go around the glove box door (its is aluminum also). I plan on putting some wood accents on the door to match the seat frames. I would post pics as proof, but we are back to the offensive items on here

The door will also hinge off of the frame, need to order some hardware for that. I need a few other oddball items of hardware too for the insulation I bought for the dog house. I figure I will put a list together on Sunday evening and hit McMaster Carr up. Expensive, but they do have every weird thing made out of stainless known to man. I feel like I am on crack every time I get on their site.....

I did order some fiberglass resin tonight......planning on making a glass glove box insert to replace the junky old plastic one. figure I can whip out a quick mold and lay one up. I have a ton of glass, just no resin.

You could get a tattoo of an assembled inline 6 for Arch!

You know Nurseman, I have always pondered what I would get for a tattoo of if I ever decided to get one! Maybe this is it lol! :bounce:

Miss Morgan on one arm and Fugly on the other. Leaves plenty of room on your back for a tramp stamp of the next project.

I got a lot of little things done yesterday, mostly figuring out how to do things more than actually doing anything. However, the offending component on here won't let me upload any photographic evidence anyhow lol! I did manage to order another boat load of parts and stuff, McMaster Carr's stock surely went up! Now I guess back to just patiently sitting here waiting for parts to show up! I an going to regret this later, but yesterday I actually was looking at the punch list and thought....." I am almost done building this girl!"........famous last words! Yep there is a light at the end of the tunnel, its just attached to the train! Or a Road Runner lol!

Good news! I finally started calling the freight company today and tracked down the block. Turns out it has been here, 1-1/2 mile from the machine shop, since Friday  "oh yeah sorry, we have been busy and haven't had time to call you".

Anyhow I was happy to finally get it! :D I dropped it off at the machine shop and they thought they could have it ready Friday! Fingers crossed, that would give me a weekend to make some progress! I also have some goodies from McMaster Carr showing up tomorrow, so I can get some work on some of my non-essential items done the next few evenings.

GA maybe you should check to see if the "uploader" is at the freight terminal also :bounce: I noticed it still seems to be offending!
