Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

The outside form is the height of the floor slab. I'm putting an overhead door on that side so I will have a "dock high" door (2' above grade). This pour will be about 3 yards. After that will be the slab, it has a turned down edge, anywhere from 18" to 6"....most of it is 12" or 6". There is only one small section of 18". I'm ready to get the slab poured and start framing!

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

There is an existing slab that I will tie into ( the truck is sitting on it). There are some lower slabs that will get covered up. At this point I almost wish I had taken out the slab the truck is on, but saving it sounded like a good idea at the time. Budget isn't going to allow removing it now, so it stays. Its actually not a bad slab at all, but I was just thinking it sure would be nice if all of the slab was new, lol! It is a huge improvement over what I had there...so I can't complain! I'm hoping to start slab prep this weekend. I need quite a bit of fill sand, and it is raining today. I may wait till next week to have them start hauling to let things dry out some. I have a lot of little things to keep us busy anyhow....cut a couple pieces of concrete out, set the last three post, strip the old forms.

Barn is looking great Bobby. I can promise you one thing. Once it is done, you will wish it was bigger. LOL.

lol you are right Matt....toys seem to grow to the space available to store them!

Bob, properly placed concrete should be in a fluid state, therefore can be poured.....I have seen some in the Oklahoma heat that came out more as ....chunks....."oh it will be fine....."......."RIGHT, punt!"

We made a lot of progress today, most of it was stripping the interior forms, cleaning up and getting ready to back-fill for the slab. We also set the last 3 columns!!

Here is the OK sunset from the barn

No, its fill sand, which I will vibrate with a plate compactor for good measure. The slab will also have #3 rebar, both directions at 16" on center. It will be doweled into the existing slab and tied into footing w/ a turned down slab edge. I might get some movement, but I doubt it.

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Well, I Hope so. I've done quite a bit of slab work in my former contractor life and anytime we had to go over 6"'s of fill we always packed @ every 6" integrals and Still had problems at times. We poured a 10,000 sf slab with 18" fill, and tried to pack it all at once by running D6 dozer and Loaders over it Had rain etc. We usd Hog Wire and Rebar on 8" centers and poured 6" concrete. Plumbers had a leak 2 months later and cut a hole to get to it and found the slab 3" above the fill. Go figure!!!!
