Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

You are correct sir. This is more or less a pole barn, with my hybrid structural design. All of the columns go a minimum of 3'-6" below finished floor. There is also a continuous footing around the perimeter..... which is over kill for our area from a frost standpoint...and really from a barn stand point. The columns are specifically designed for this application, and are actually an engineered product. The bottom 6' is .60 CCA treated, which is the good stuff so to speak. Most of the pressure treated lumber available a few years ago was .30 CCA treated. The EPA came along and outlawed CCA for most applications. This product squeezes through the bs and is rated for direct burial, which the .30 stuff you used to get at Home Depot wasn't.....so the columns should be there when we are all done and gone :D They are made up of several 2x6's, which are laminated together like a glue lam beam. The product is very strait, true and stable.....its called titan timber, by timber technologies. Great product, beats solid sawn 6x6's in every aspect.

Thanks for coming on board shooter...but its on a side track right now. I'm hoping we get back to the toon this spring, lots of other projects I have to get done first. We did get most of the columns up today, now I'm trying to get the rebar tied and the mud poured before the rain on Wednesday. A couple more weeks and we should be starting framing, I hope...I'm ready to get Miss Morgan's and the toons new home built!

not anything to do with the toon, but here are some updates on the barn. I have all of the columns up except 3, they will go up at a later date, need to saw some concrete.

Whoever came up w/ that staggered PT wood w/ non-PT in a glu-lam has my respect, brilliant & so obviously a great idea in hindsight......

Post, footers & rebar look great.

The city in all of their wisdom blessed my rebar today...so hopefully before it rains I can get 16 yards of concrete in the ground tomorrow. That doesn't sound bad until you realize it weighs 32 tons!

And comes in 3 or 4 mixer trucks  Good to get it poured before you have to use winter mix concrete too

Good luck!

Are you on another forum with more pictures of your non boat building activities? I would like to follow those as well.

no but I do post on youtube, but my camcorder keeled over in the storm and I really haven't had time to post anything anyhow. I am planning on getting a new one in a few days and chronicling the barn build as well as eventually the toon!

by the way, someone remind me what the max pic resolution is. Mine are looking a little fuzzy I was thinking it was 720, but I'm guessing that is wrong.

Thanks for the barn update. Did the fence with mow path get blown away?
