Been there, done that. Menards even sells these nice metal RV shelters that would be perfect for boat building work, provided you could heat them.

But local code prohibits any non permanent (IE without a foundation) accessory structure or any structure that doesn't match the style of the primary structure (house). Plus there are limits on location and amount of accessory buildings.

If I'd known then what I know now about the city's codes, I would have moved much farther out....

Yup, I got a buddy that lives across the highway from the Brass Rail in Grandy, he can pop off shells at clay pigeons right out of the front yard with no one complaining....I'm half tempted to build something on his land to use and then give it to him after I'm done with it, to store the boat in in the winter....

I won't drop the F bomb, but I came up with a term that I will tell my agent the next time we go house shopping.... I want a house with the lowest "F" With Me Factor we can find. If that means I live alone on a cul de sac in the middle of the woods next to a swamp, I'm taking it! If it means I have to live next to a bunch of gun totin' rednecks with Harleys and parties on the weekends, as long as they leave me to my devices..so be it.

Of course, acreage is best, particularly acreage with lots of trees surrounding it....or a very tall wood fence that blocks the view from the road

got the foam template pretty much made, and I drove the boat back into the back yard for more grinding...but first, I dropped the cap back on for a test fit. As far as the transom goes, as well as the floor height....Thunderbirds are a go! Too dark to take pictures of the boat, but I did get the cap ALL THE WAY ON BY MYSELF! And I figured out a real easy way to do it....ratchet straps! I really should use 3, but I used two. Just pulled the lower hull in a bit like I was sucking in the gut to get the belt on one lower notch and dropped the cap down. Had a little trouble with the area by the fuel door, but that's always been finicky.

Of course, I have to pull the cap off again to put the floor in, but for now I'm going to let it rest I'll get in there and make some support board templates for the knees and rear cap supports and do some checking to see how much more I have to build up the transom thickness if any so the upper bolts and through hull splashwell drainplug holes are supported properly.

Pretty stoked about how that came together. I wish I had kids or a wife that would man the camera for me when I get involved in this stuff as I seem to do most of it on a whim.

Dude, you guys make me wish I didnt live in cali. I love shooting guns, I love camping, fiishing drinking, guns and guns. Cali sux for almost all that crap. BTW nice progress of the boat, Im a bit drunk now so forgive my rant. Can't wait to see it done red, you have been a big influence on me!

I'll be so much happier once I get to set the cap back on the hull for good. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to build myself a shelter to work on the boat that I can take down easily enough , and put back up quickly....I need to invent the quick set up tent for boat repair

I can relate living in city limits. Luckily, I have a garage that I can store my boat in. We're only allowed 24-48 parking of a boat in a driveway.

yeah, the cap is currently on, but it'll be coming back off. I've been too busy with other things to get anything meaningful done on the boat lately ( read:Xbox 360 ) and probably won't get much done this coming weekend as I work Saturday, and don't know if I'll get Tuesday off....if I do, I'm going fishing dammit!

Was playing UFC Undisputed, but now I'm back to playing rainbow six vegas 2. Tom Clancy games are always my favorite. Hopefully soon it will be Halo 3 ODST.

Wow. Excellent job Mike. I'm following this with great interest as I have the exact same boat right down to the pretty pea green color. My motor died a few years ago and parts to fix it were going to be more than the old motor was worth so I covered it and stuck it on a friends property. Since then, the cover was blown off and it's filled with all sorts of wildlife. I've always wanted to drag it out and restore it. It has some sentimental value since my father bought it new in 1970. I have a lot of happy memories on that boat. I may drag it out and play with it one day.

Keep posting the progress, you may motivate me.

I will Vegas! I tried to get my normal moniker, but apparently someone had it already, so I ended up going with RedFuryIII, which is fine since I've used that before at other places.

I'm currently trying to get mine hardwired for internet, but I do have Halo 3 also...( library is lacking in games ATM ). I'll eventually get ODST and COD though.

I'd like to say that the progress on the boat is coming along, but the way my life goes, I only get small snippets of time to work on it, there is never a block of time I get to allot to it, so I hope you don't mind minor updates here and there sporadically!

As far as being the best looking Glastron out there for 1000 miles, I'll be competing with Jscersca's then
