Are you sure it isn't 25029? That would be a 1957 35hp

Looks eerily familiar to our '56 Big Twin 30HP. Only difference is that ours didn't have that bar across the back of the motor.

IF someone didn't sand it off, I bet you get that gray paint off you'll find the Evinrude blue metallic underneath.

Back in 1957 oil mix was a quart to 6 gallons of gas. My wife's family had a 1958 35 HP Rude on their boat back when I was dating her. Later on engines were refined to run on a better quality oil [Two Cycle (Stroke....current term) Watercraft 1,2 or current 3rd iteration of the formula...TC-W1,2 or 3.

What I don't know is whether or not you can use current 1 pint of oil to 6 gallons of gas....But I'll bet that there is plenty of talent on here that can answer that question....I'd get it answered before I ran the engine again.

I didn't realize the plug on the top of the engin was the serial number smh. I need to order new cables for it do you by chance know which ones I should order and if they will hook up to the shifter that was hooked up to the mercury?

That set up looks a lot like a boat we had when I was a kid. It had a 40 HP Evinrude Lark. My mon and dad used to ski behind it. I've seen those long bars across the back of older motors that were used with steering cables on hydroplanes! Not steering cables like we use today, but the old type of cables that wrapped around a drum on the back of the steering wheel and then a cable ran down each side of the boat and to the motor. There were pullys in the corners with springs to keep tension on the cables. As a kid, that boat used to fly! But I'm guessing it'll do about 35 MPH. I think those older motors were all a little under rated on horsepower. I see the fuel connector has 3 pins. Do you have the correct gas tank for the motor? That's a motor that has not fuel pump, right?

Yes Jimmbo, it did have a fiberglass cowling. With small tailfins!! It's more the look of the boat that reminds me of our boat. That Evinrude lark was electric start, but had a door that opened down with the pull handle in there and some carburetor adjustment screws in there too. Yeah, I've had a few of the older motors with the aluminum cowlings too. I don't remember the horsepower, but I had an old Evinrude or Johnson that had a split cowling where you removed wing nuts on one side and that half of the cowling flipped open. That was an 18HP I think. I'd love to have that motor again. It was so cool to me.

My dad had a 57 35hp, and then 63 Johnson Eletramatic, but it had a 66 40hp Electric Start Cowl. The guy we bought it from had another 40hp, and likely swapped the Cowls, cause the Electramatics were decked out a bit Fancier
The pic was taken 49 yrs ago, to the Day, about a week after I first waterskied, 3 weeks later, I was Slaloming

Water skiing was a blast! Nobody around here does that anymore. I'm shopping for skis right now so I can teach my grandkids! I bet we'll impress them when they see their Pops and their dads show them our tricks! But maybe this 63 year old guy better take it easy. I can remember the "morning after" some of my first days on Skis. I ached in muscles I never knew existed!

I got a mile master it's not evenrude but close enough, I got out bid on a freshly rebuilt cruise a day by$15 I was so mad. But I found this one for a good deal that had the connector with it in decent shape. I figured I'd give it a new paint job. Already sanded all the rust off everything on the inside and cleaned it up and put new custom leather seals on it. This boat I think might have sort of the steering your talking about, it has a drum behind the steering wheel with channels through the middle of it where cables are ran from there to a series of pulls. I was thinking about changing it out but it looks brand new. Any idea how safe they are?

Some folks use " clothes line " on them .----I looks the same but is NOT the same.----Use tiller cable from your local boat shop.-----They are ok for up to 40 HP or so.
