Bearings are NOT pressed in place on those !-----Clutch dog slides right off.-----Well it should if there are no burrs on the spline.
I wonder if someone stuck a 66 or later propshaft in it, or an entire Unit. If so, maybe it is hanging up on the Detent

Taking a closer look the spline was boogered up a little bit. I could have more than likley beat it off with a hammer and pipe but decided to just replace everything, should be in the mail Tuesday. However I did want to ask if any of you knew what this o ring goes to. It fell out along with a bolt that I didn't take loose. It was one of the two pictured and have now got them mixed up while waiting on all the gears and drive shaft and such comming In. Can anyone tell me what the bolt and orange goes to? Also I noticed that on the shift lever disconnect it has a spot for 2 bolts and there was only the top one holding the shifter rod in place could this be what caused the clutch dog from not engaging properly if it was put in where the top bolt had to secure the two?

Is their a gasket that goes right here on the water pump? Or on the drive shaft it's self?

Item #37 fits the groove at top of driveshaft.
Any idea about the extra bolt? And is there any tricks to put the lower unit back on?

Do I have this right the numbers that collaborate with the link Jimbo sent me? I have a picture of the schematics at the top of the page I'm including for reference. I'm sorry I have so many questions it's my first outboard rebuild and I'm trying to do it right. You guys have been so much help! Some of the numbers don't correspond with the diagram though so I'm going to try and post the link he sent if I can figure out how.

This for a 57 35hp. unfortunately the Site doesn't provide for 1956 models

I'm quite certain that the Gearcase and internals stayed the same between the 1956 thru 1965 model yrs for the Big Twin engine.
This is the link he sent me

These are the bolts, one fell out when I took the lower unit off and I didn't take it loose. Now I have them mixed up because one I did take off.

Well the biggest bummer ever just happned, the guy I was buying the gear set from canceled my order when it was supposed to be here tomorrow. I think him and my wife miss communicated and he thought we were scamming him or something I don't know he didn't give an excuse just refunded the money and blocked us. I'm starting to think this motor is cursed smh. Hopefully I will be able to find new parts for a price I can afford. Until then I'm ordering the

0302528 302528 ring gearcase parts and hopefully I will be able to get it to work with what I got. Jimbo and Racerone, I'm so glad there are people out there for people like me doing their first restoration of a engine and answering all my crazy questions! Hopefully I'll be back bugging you guys soon.

Could it be because I didn't set the high and low speed knows right? Both cylinders have 100 and 103 and I rebuilt and cleaned the carburetor and am getting spark to both cylinders. I guess maybe I should change the spark plugs. It runs solid as all get ot when not in gear.

Set the High Speed Needle to 1 turn open from LIGHTLY seated, the Low Speed Needle to 1 1/2 turns. These are Rich, but are Initial Settings when working on these carbs

I tried it but it's still doing the same thing. I rebuilt the carburetor all but the Reed valves. Is it possible that is what it is? Also I rebuilt the lower unit but a little oil is comming out of the 2 holes on the middle of the front seal the holes on it her side of the shaft.
