I know in 57 they had moved the Fuel Filter to the Port Side of the Block

I think I found it 18-7043, does anyone know if I can take the hardware for the shifter cable off and switch it out to my new type 400 cables? It does not have an allen screw but a square sticking up on both sides next to the eye.

Hey guys thought I would show you guys an update, I got all the parts to hook it up to the boat ( the one for the life of me can't figure out what it is) have them all installed and took it out to the river yesterday after noon after rebuilding the carburetor and got through the no wake zone then hit the throttle and then clunk out of gear she went! Tried reverse and couldn't get it to work either. It did however limp back to the trailer at an idle. I'm thinking it's the clutch dog. 🤔 does any of you gentlemen know what the part number is? I would like to order it before I take everything apart since it's the rainy season so it doesn't sit with the skag off. And if I replace the clutch dog would I need to replace anything else? Also do any of you guys know where I can download a parts list or manual? Thanks in advance you guys are awesome!

This for a 57 35hp. unfortunately the Site doesn't provide for 1956 models

I'm quite certain that the Gearcase and internals stayed the same between the 1956 thru 1965 model yrs for the Big Twin engine.

Jimbo thank you so much! I have had the hardest time fi ding parts for this thing. When I opened the skeg up everything locks together and spins when I do it by hand but the snap rings was broken. Is there any way that could be what's causing it to not go in to gear and stay in gear? Also would any 2" snap ring work for this or is there something special about it?

I believe the Snap Ring is being used a stop for the Trust Washer. If it that Washer moves, the Reverse Gear can move also, with not good results. If it the correct Thickness, I can't see why it won't work.
Yours does have a Tapered Roller Bearing at the Front of the Propshaft?

The difference between a Lark and a Big Twin, is Paint, a few shiny bits of Trim on the Cowl, and a Cover over the Choke, Mixture Knobs, and Cowl Latch

The Clutch Dog on a 56 should just slide off, forward or backward. Does it slide back and forth on the Splines?

I think so, I can post some pictures when I get off work and let you see if you think I need to get new gears and such. How did you do a search like that on that website.

It will slide back and forth bit stopps right about an inch before it comes off the splines.

I couldn't tell if the splines were a little boogered up or if it was designed for it to only come out the back. I really hope it's just that snap ring but I found the whole assembly for 200 dollars and the person says it works perfect almost like new.

Bearings are NOT pressed in place on those !-----Clutch dog slides right off.-----Well it should if there are no burrs on the spline.
