Re: My Walleye Project - 70's Sea Nymph SS160 1668

What wasn't shown was what the inside of the keel looks like in our boats. We have the same exact SN, below is my cracked keel plate in the same location.

It's perfect for a epoxy putty repair like marine tex. It would be difficult to get the curvature right for a plate repair inside not to mention there are a ton of rivets.

Re: My Walleye Project - 70's Sea Nymph SS160 1668

Ordered Marine Tex putty for the cracks....will try it out. Also ordered black Steel Flex from Fasco epoxies to coat the entire bottom to prevent any rivet seeping....Thanks for all of the advice guys!!!!

Replaced the rivets I drilled out and also drilled out the ends of the cracks to prevent further crackage (word?) This was also my first time working with 5200...sticky

finished up the new bunks...trailer is almost back together...didnt feel a trailer resto thread was necessary

Re: My Walleye Project - 70's Sea Nymph SS160 1668

Story for yall, I took the wife to cabelas early saturday morning to set her up with a new PINK compound bow. She has always wanted to shoot with me (i shoot a lot) so I thought it would be fun. Ended up she is a great shot out of the box!

Once the bow was purchased, I said hey babe lets go check out this motor for the sea nymph, its only a little further down the road....she said "ok". This is the 80's evinrude 60 hp with tilt & trim we went to see. I had mentioned that I was going to sell the boat and trailer it came with to make my money back on the motor.

When we got to the marina, the seller said to us.." Hey, if you want we can launch this boat and go for a test drive so you can see how good this motor runs"....I said "hell yes!! I would love to see it run before I buy it"

So we went for a cruise, and the motor ran great as far as I am concerned. I think it will need a new impellor after this summer, but besides that it sounded great and smooth. 3 of us in this 16 fter and we got up to probably 25 mph at least....couldnt say for sure.

So we get back to the launch, and I told the guy we had a deal. Hooked up and left. Well after that sequence of events, katie wants to keep the new boat....and ditch the SN!!!! She even promised she would help me work on it and fix it up.

Her exact words were: "Babe, this boat is more of a boat we can cruise on with the dogs, and it even has seats! I told you your new boat had to have seats!!"

Re: My Walleye Project - 70's Sea Nymph SS160 1668

So as far as I am concerned, I am going to finish the SN....and put the Starcraft in line for my new winter project. Get a different motor for the SN...unless I come accross a nice 90 for the SC.

I got the 1973 Starcraft SUS(super sport maybe???) Motor/controls, trailer, new battery, seats, hummingbird FF, 3 boat coats, 3 props including a stainless, fire extinguisher, bilge, bow/stern lights for less than what the motor is worth alone. :joyous: Did not expect to come home with a 2nd project tho...
Overall it was a nice little saturday!

Well I guess everyone in the Starmada would agree you absolutely positively beyond the shadow of a doubt married a keeper. She's attractive, can shoot, and most importantly has great tastes in boats and projects you sir are a lucky man.

Now that being said let me be the first to officially welcome you to the starmada.

Very nice find there Jared and I don't just mean the new Starcraft! Too funny I just brought home a rescue Starcraft myself and for the same reason, the admiral thought it would be nice to have a cruiser and not just a fishing boat. My new one is far from being seaworthy right now with it's mercuiser in a bin. Yours looks awesome and ready to enjoy some time on the lakes. When you order the parts for the rude be sure and get the whole kit, not just the impeller.

Wow... Lots to congratulate you on... We can start with the fact that your attractive bride can not only shoot a compound bow, but also helps with restore projects...

Oh, and then there is the Starcraft as well..

Good stuff all around... Congrats on the marriage, new boat, etc...

I have to admit, I almost audibly said "welcome to the Starmada mutherf&^ka" upon reading this :D

Nice boat. Keep the 60 for the SN. You want a triple for the SC.

Thanks Blue! and holy crap! I do not even know what that is?? Seller said he changed the lower unit each fall but we'll see...

Ahh thanks Deke, trying to get somewhere on the SN, but summer is busy. and MBS for sure! Didnt know what that was until I read a couple of Jason's threads

Whats the 4th boat going to be??

Thanks Sig, very kind words my friend! I am blessed...that I know. What exactly is the meaning/reference to Starmada btw? I can see what you guys are meaning, but would like to know the origin of the word..ha

Thanks Water! First we have matching SN's (yours is much nicer tho) then each bring home a starcraft...whats next bud?

I will make sure to get the whole kit, good info!

That is hilarious EZ....i knew she/we(same thing) were sold then too. Nice starcraft yourself by the way, went through most of the thread and it looks good. What top speed do you have with that 90? Looks like you are enjoying the heck out of it!

Its funny because I looked at another rude 60 2 weeks ago, maybe 1 year older (1988) and it was a triple. But I think something larger for the SC would be nice.

Starcraft + Armada = Starmada.

I can just touch 40MPH with my 90. Power TnT is definitely essential to hit that. Thanks for the compliment. I do certainly enjoy it. Unfortunately not much this year as our youngest is 17 months which makes boating fall solidly in the "not worth the trouble" category. The boat will be going on vacation with us though to the shore and I hope to get a couple weekends with it here and there.

I'm guessing your view-count increase 500% when you added the Starcraft (and that's excluding the attention that an Admiral drawing a compound bow draws )

the PO of that motor also changed the LU oil every fall...however was a deer-in-headlights when I inquired about the water-pump  I flash that picture every time I see someone delaying that critical 1st-check.

Re: My Walleye Project - 70's Sea Nymph SS160 1668

I applied the Marine Tex Epoxy Putty to the cracks in my hull yesterday...turned out pretty good! Thanks for the suggestion Waterman

I duck taped the backs of the cracks, and filled in the voids

Had a lot left over...why not?

Pretty hard stuff!

Oh yeah marine tex... sands like wood, strong as steel... right, it sands like steel too.

The outside of the keel where the crack is, I built up the marine tex with 2 layers for future protection and filled in the dents, sanded it as smooth as I could, sorta like bondo on steroids. My keel plate was all dented up too from the PO beaching in a rock pile at 10 knots.

I think most of the long term sealing will occur when you fill in from the inside with MT and are you going to cover the repairs inside with gluvit?

Keep on keeping on!

Dont worry SG, once I actually start hammering things out, there will be more "summary" posts...
