Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks guys ,we got a late start and had to wait on the tide . The ramp thats a bout 2 min from the house gets a little tricky at low tide . If your not careful you will end up on an oyster bed or mud bank .
Now for the main course here is a video we thru together . It was pretty windy so we just added some tunes instead of all the snap krackle pop !

Brother Sam, :first:
You have made my weekend complete!
Besides today being a Mega-Auto-Racing day for me and getting to see one of my favorites just win at Indy...
Your Splash has been the highlight of my day!
I had to watch your video three times and then a fourth time to show the Admiral, before I could reply, I was having so much fun!
Almost 40 mph at 5000 rpm, Sah-weeeeeT!!!:clap2:
The MFG looks amazing zooming over the liquid expanse...
Thank you, thank you and thank you for being an inspiration to all of us.
Most of all thanks for sharing, not only this Splash, but everything you have done to bring this beautiful boat back to better than its former glory...
Congratulations on a MOST AWESOME job!:hail:
May you and your Family enjoy many, many happy outings on your BRAND NEW MFG!
Oh yeah, and that steering wheel looks pretty awesome, if I do say so myself...:whistle:
And BTW, did you do a Christening???
Have a Super Holiday!:usa2:

Now THAT was a successfull....
Splash.jpg

I know all the "Issues" you had along the way "Melted" away when you were WOT and the wind was blowing in your face and she was performing like a New Boat. I'm sure that anyone and everyone that saw here was totally impressed and will continue to be for a long time to come. She's a tribute to your hard work and attention to detail.

Yep , Chris never misses an opportunity to jump behind the wheel of anything and he knows the creeks as well as me so I gave him the honor of bringing her out for the first time .

Troop ,ya have to get used to the way this hull design is . It will dig in and turn on a dime . A bit scary at first until you take a few corners at high speed to get a feel for it ..

Thanks Gus ! Yep she moved along pretty well 2 guys bucking the tide into a headwind topping at around 37 .. I'll take that ! The Gus inspired wheel looks much better and the krylon fusion paint worked well . Thanks Jb ! No Christening yet .. I plan on doing that when I take mom out . Gunna ask if she would do the honors . I really think she would enjoy that !!

Thank you Mike for all your help and support throughout this project !! And you know I didn't see any blemishes the whole time we were out enjoying the day !! I tell ya there must have been 20 or so people giving praise on the water and at the ramp on how good this almost 50 year old tub looks ! Today pulling in right behind me at the ramp was an old guy with a 64 Seafarer runabout that was in pretty good shape with an old Merc on it . Needless to say we had to chew the fat a bit before heading out .

Thanks again everyone !!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Ok I did not come away with a completely unscathed splash weekend . I got a couple scratches on the hull toward the bow . I guess a hard edge on the inside bunks must have been the culprit . I did cut a 45 deg angle on the bunks . I think I will pull the carpet off and use the grinder to give it a complete round over . Hopefully that will help . Other than that the trailer worked extremely well . It was the most effortless launch and retrieval I have ever had with any boat . Had a snafu with the seats also . The angle that I used to make the hinges is just not strong/thick enough at the pivot point . I have some flat stock allum that I will make a temp fix with until I can either buy some thicker angle or take then to a fabricator and have them built . That will have to wait for some serious money tree fertilization.
Cheers everyone !!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

What a long and fantastic adventure you have taken from the pouring of the transom to the great splashwell and jump seats to the mastering of the fiberglass work on the seat housing and the custom made seats..

Learning how to make patterns and sewing the seats covers to the excellent painting of the hull and top..
The rehab of the trailer and the great looking aluminum wheels.. And all the other 1000's of things you have done so well..

Now the long road has finally taken you to the end of the ramp to a Beautiful Splash..

I know you must be very proud of this accomplishment..
I am so glad that you took the time to share all of this with us here on i-boats..:yo::peace::whoo::party::first:

Congratulations on a job very well done..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks very much Decker ! It would not have been anywhere near as fun without you guys coming along for the ride !:tea:

Ok , after watching my sil try and climb in the boat after a nice long tubing session , Wish I had video of that !
I think I need some sort of platform/ladder . I guess either just a fold down type or a small platform type. Any of you guys have any experience with either type ? If so was it good or not so good ?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Believe it or not I used the Old Gunwale Hangover style on the BF and My 250# son had no Problems gettin in and out.

I used a thick beach towel to protect the gunwale and had no issues.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks Woody Those are fairly inexpensive also . I was just looking for something that would fold down and not take up much space in the boat. That leads me to these boxes that ended up on my doorstep ..

Lucky for me no pumas to have to deal with . Only now I got to get the hamster back on the wheel and come up with a game plan for all this loot that our good buddy down in Miami sent me !

Thanks Gus ! Your one awesome dude ! This will make it much easier for the Admiral and my daughter to get in on some tubing fun !:)
